I have to start by saying, I hate budget cuts in tv these days. Don’t get me wrong I loved this episode, but the absence of Scola and OA was definitely felt throughout. However I did like the fact that we got to see the new dynamic of Maggie and Eva. I wouldn’t say that I would like them to work together full time because I do think the OG dynamics are better, but I would be open to seeing them paired together more this season.
I think this episode worked so well having the two ladies paired together because we got to see a different side to both Maggie and Eva. For Maggie we got to see her in a more advisory/mentor role which we haven’t really seen with OA since he has always been out in the field be that in the army or at 26 Fed.
We got to see how hard it was for Eva to build a relationship with the people in the case and it was great to see an emotion we haven’t seen from the others. You can really tell that Eva is used to the behind the scenes work but I like the fact that we are getting to see her develop, obviously we had a similar storyline with Kristen in the very early seasons, but she was already used to 26 Fed, Eva is not.
The difference in pace of the show with Isobel back in the SAC chair was so evident, I am so incredibly glad that they didn’t kill her off at the start of the season. I think Jubal would be a good replacement for her had she not made it, but I would rather see her do her thing. Plus I have always and will always adore scenes of her and Jubal riffing off of each other.
This truly was a jam-packed episode, and I truly did not expect the Crown Prince to be killed, let alone killed using one of the CIA’s guns. For me the highlight of this episode was Salma Bakari, her character was essentially a vigilante, and she may not have been in the right for what she did, but I think Nia Sondaya’s portrayal was perfect. I wish we got to see more of her character.
