Zack Snyder’s newest social media post has his fan base buzzing about a possible return to the SnyderVerse following the news that Netflix was set to acquire Warner Bros. The entertainment industry has been in a state of shock since it broke that Netflix’s offer to purchase Warner Bros. had been approved by shareholders, leaving many wondering about the future of theatrical distribution. A subcategory of interest among many is what will happen to the James Gunn DCU, and if Snyder’s return is possible after years of “Sell the SnyderVerse to Netflix” being a rallying cry for some and a joke to others.
Snyder took to Instagram to share a new photo of Henry Cavill as Superman. The post, dated December 7, 2025, thanks the fans for helping Snyder reach 500k followers in two months. Snyder added, “For me, these characters are a kind of modern mythology, and I put a ton of reverence and respect into bringing them to life. Seeing that resonate with so many of you means the world.” He concluded the post with “Here’s to many more stories together,” leaving many fans to think of that as a hint that the filmmaker is hinting at new DC-related films. No Worries, the SnyderVerse Is Still Over
While many fans are hoping that Netflix will revive the SnyderVerse and resurrect Zack Snyder’s ambitious Justice League sequels, that does not seem likely. Both James Gunn and Peter Safran’s contracts for DC Studios were recently extended to 2027, and Gunn has his own direction of the DCU, one that clashes with Snyder’s tone and aesthetic. Despite a portion of the two directors’ fanbases trying to pit the two creatives against one another, they are good friends. Gunn wrote 2004’s Dawn of the Dead, which was Snyder’s directorial debut feature film. Both directors also voiced themselves on an episode of Rick and Morty, parodying their own personas.
There is also the fact that Netflix and Snyder’s collaborations have recently gone south. Despite Snyder signing a first-look deal with Netflix in April 2021 following the aftermath of the Justice League debacle, all of his Netflix projects have been critical disappointments. Army of the Dead launched one spin-off film, Army of Thieves, and has since gone silent. The two Rebel Moon films were critically panned, and Netflix also canceled Snyder’s animated series, Twilight of the Gods. The streamer might have invested heavily in Snyder before, but it seems to be pulling back.
Snyder’s comments about more stories together are most likely about his future projects, and not more DC films. His next movie, The Last Photograph, was filmed in late summer 2025. He is also set to direct a film about the UFC entitled Brawler, as well as write what is described as a “hot lesbian action movie” with Army of the Dead star Tig Notaro. Snyder has clearly moved on from his DCEU, yet it is unlikely his fans will.
