The tributes proceed to pour in following the stunning demise of Academy Award winner Gene Hackman
. Whereas the actor was well-known for his intense, typically terrifying performances within the likes of Unforgiven and The French Connection, he was not averse to offering the laughs too, starring in seminal director Mel Brooks’ beloved 1974 horror comedy Younger Frankenstein.
Brooks has now paid tribute to the actor, taking to X/Twitter to replicate on their time working collectively, describing Hackman as “excellent” for the position of the blind hermit, Harold.
“I used to be privileged to know Gene Hackman as a result of he performed tennis with one other Gene—Gene Wilder. And that Gene informed him about just a little position known as The Blind Hermit in our film YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN. He stated, “Do you assume Mel would let me play it? I’ve all the time needed to do a comedy.” Evidently, I used to be over the moon and he was excellent.”
