After a long wait, fans finally know when X-Men ’97 will return to Disney+. X-Men ’97, a continuation of the beloved X-Men: The Animated Series, is regarded by fans as not only one of the best X-Men stories but one of the best offerings from Marvel Studios and Marvel Animation. It is Marvel Animation’s highest-rated project with 99%, also making it the best-reviewed entry in the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Season 1 concluded in May 2024, and fans have been eagerly awaiting the second season following a massive cliffhanger.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 will debut on Disney+ in the summer of 2026, as confirmed by Marvel Studios at New York Comic-Con. No exact date was announced. Also announced is confirmation that X-Men ’97 has been renewed for Season 3. Marvel released an official logo for X-Men ‘97 Season 2 on X, which can be seen below:
2026 Will be the Year of ‘X-Men’
X-Men ’97 debuting in the summer of 2026 is a big deal. Marvel Television typically reserves the summer window for its live-action television series, like Loki Season 1, Ms. Marvel, and Ironheart. With Marvel Studios’ next film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, not coming until July 31, 2026, Marvel will be without a big title for most of the summer season. X-Men ’97 Season 2, tasked with carrying that torch, shows how much faith Marvel has in the property.
While it would be appropriate for X-Men ’97 to debut the first week of May, to keep in the tradition of Marvel films kicking off the summer, that is still classified as spring in terms of business and press announcement. A summer premiere date suggests X-Men ’97 could debut around Memorial Day, which would be appropriate, as X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men: Days of Future Past opened in theaters on Memorial Day weekend. Summer likely means closer to June 2026, which would give X-Men ’97 enough leeway before Spider-Man: Brand New Day opens in theaters.
X-Men ’97 Season 2 is already set up to be even darker than its predecessor, with voice actor Ross Marquand teasing that many characters will die. That certainly sounds like it will set the stage for whatever Marvel Animation has planned for X-Men ’97, which is already in production and could air in 2027. Between X-Men ’97 Season 2, Insomniac’s Wolverine video game, and the classic 20th Century Fox X-Men appearing in Avengers: Doomsday, 2026 will be the year of the X-Men.
