When Brilliant Minds Season 2 first began, we encountered Dr. Oliver Wolf as a patient at Hudson Oaks, a psychiatric facility.
Of course, the first question out of my mouth was “What happened?”
How did Wolf go from doctor to patient?
While it’s not completely unheard of, something big had to have happened for Oliver to end up in a psychiatric facility, considering what he knows of the places and what he knows of mental health.
Carol Would Never Support It
Then, on Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 2, things made me reexamine the situation, especially as it turns out that Dr. Carol Pierce is the one encouraging Oliver to sign up for inpatient treatment.
This is a woman who has been by Oliver’s side through some of his darkest times, and she’s not going to give up on him.
She has been there when he used drugs to cope with his mental health, and she knows all about his abandonment issues.
On top of that, she knows all about his father, including what everyone now knows — that Noah Wolf didn’t die 30 years ago and was likely in a facility like this.
This made me start looking at all the reasons why Carol would even consider letting Oliver go into one of these facilities, and it’s clear there’s something more to this.
Oliver Doesn’t Like Amelia
On Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 1, we met Bellamy Young’s Amelia Fredericks for the first time.
Then we met her again on Episode 2, but this time, it was Oliver’s first meeting with her.
He immediately didn’t like her, and I don’t blame him for that, as it’s clear she is up to something.
That sickly sweet voice, acting as if she cares for patients, is a turn-off, and it’s a huge sign in the world of TV that she is up to something nefarious.
Okay, not superhero-level evil, but evil.
What better way to find out what that is than to get into the facility?
Of course, Oliver can’t go in as a doctor, as she knows who he is and likely knows it’s suspicious that he wants to work there considering his specialty.
That means he has to go in as a patient.
He’ll know the tricks of an inpatient facility, and Carol will be able to guide him on others.
This allows him to see what’s going on inside to figure out what Amelia is actually doing.
This would then make sense why Carol would support the idea of Oliver going in as a patient, considering what she knows of these places and what she knows of Oliver.
If she is suspicious, she will want answers, and while she won’t think it’s safe, she may have resigned to the idea that it’s the only option.
It All Connects to Noah
Alternatively, it’s not Amelia that Oliver wants to get into Hudson Oaks for.
It’s Noah Wolf!
During Brilliant Minds Season 2 Episode 2, we learn that Noah has left again.
At least this time, he left a note, but Oliver will want to know where his dad is and whether he’s safe.
What if he learns that his dad is in Hudson Oaks?
Again, knowing what these facilities are like and knowing the health problems his dad is facing, Oliver would likely risk himself just to get into Hudson Oaks to get his dad out, and the best way to do that is by going in as a patient.
During the Brilliant Minds Season 2 premiere, it didn’t look like Oliver was trying to escape.
Instead, it looked like he was trying to get to a different floor, possibly one where his dad is located.
With the savior complex that Oliver has, it makes the most sense, and this is something that Carol could potentially support, knowing how much Oliver needs his dad in his life.
The first two episodes of the season have done a good job of suggesting that Oliver is going crazy and needs inpatient treatment, but Carol wouldn’t encourage him to go to such a place, and Oliver wouldn’t even consider it.
There is another reason.
You made it to the end — and that means a lot.
