Brad Pitt‘s new racing movie, F1, was one of the most successful original movies of the year, but it’s time for the film to come home. The movie has been in theaters for three months and has received widespread acclaim. It’s filled with spectacular visuals and speedy racing scenes directed by Joseph Kosinski, the director of Top Gun: Maverick.
The film is supposed to be an Apple TV+ original, but it’s currently missing from the streaming service’s roster. After its theatrical run, the film was released last month on digital platforms, including Fandango at Home and Prime Video. Apple TV+ hasn’t announced a streaming date for F1, but based on past releases, it is expected to arrive soon. Based on multiple factors, it looks like F1 could be streaming in October.
Expect ‘F1’ on Apple TV+ in October

It’s hard to guess an exact date for F1 to join Apple TV+, as the streaming service is all over the place when bringing theatrical films to streaming. Argylle took only two months to arrive on the streaming service. Napoleon and Killers of the Flower Moon both took around three months, and Fly Me to the Moon took five months. That’s an average of about three months from theaters to streaming for Apple TV+’s tentpole films. Considering F1 came out at the end of June, the three months would place its streaming release date around October.
That date also aligns with other factors. According to Box Office Mojo, F1 is set to play in fewer than 40 theaters by the end of September, suggesting that Apple TV+ is preparing to welcome the hit film to its streaming service. F1 releases on Blu-ray on October 7 and has already been available to rent or buy digitally for a month. Both Killers of the Flower Moon and Argylle were available on digital a month before they started streaming on Apple TV+.
The only obstacle standing in the way of F1‘s Apple TV+ debut is the streamer’s upcoming movie. The next Apple TV+ movie, titled The Lost Bus, releases on the service on October 3. The film stars Matthew McConaughey as a bus driver who must escort a teacher and her class to safety as he navigates the 2018 Camp Fire that struck California. With a big star like McConaughey, Apple TV+ likely wants to give the film room to succeed on the service, so it may take at least a week or two before F1 joins the streamer.
‘F1’ Is Brad Pitt’s Best Film in Years
Brad Pitt takes the lead in the film as race car driver Sonny Hayes, and it’s his best role since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Sonny is a racing prodigy, but his ego sometimes leads him to clash with other characters. That includes his old friend, Rubén Cervantes, whom Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem plays. It includes his love interest and car designer, Kate McKenna, who’s played by Oscar nominee Kerry Condon. It even includes his teammate, Joshua Pearce, whom the young and brilliant Damson Idris plays.
The actors are all great, but they’re not the main attraction. The best reason to watch F1 is to get a glimpse of the fast-paced driving scenes. The movie kicks into full gear with Sonny driving in the 24-hour Daytona race, and each scene gets better from there. The scenes that take place during the F1 races will have audiences wondering how they could film all this. The sound of roaring engines as cars zoom around the track is accompanied by an incredible score from Hans Zimmer.
The silver lining to F1 taking this long to arrive on Apple TV+ is that the film had a great theatrical run. After releasing in theaters at the end of June, F1 made more than $600 million worldwide, beating films like Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps, according to Box Office Mojo. It’s refreshing to see the movie doing so well, as Apple TV+ is one of the only streaming services that devotes full theatrical releases to some of its original films. The film also looks its best on the big screen, with its fast-paced racing scenes, though we can’t deny that we’re excited to rewatch F1 when it lands on streaming services.
