Sesame Street loves its (kid-friendly) modern-day pop culture riffs, and Netflix loves its corporate synergy. So, on the eve of Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery arriving on the streaming service, Netflix has released “Forks Out,” a new sketch in which Detective Beignet Blanc — obviously riffing on Daniel Craig’s signature role as Benoit Blanc — arrives just in time to solve a dastardly crime: Who ate Cookie Monster’s triple berry pie?
No spoilers for whodunnit, of course. However, this sketch, as charming as it might be, likely won’t stop people from continuing to hope that one day, the real Benoit Blanc might actually meet some Muppets. Sadly, Wake Up Dead Man director Rian Johnson recently told The Hollywood Reporter that he had no plans to make that happen, because “I love and respect Muppet movies too much, and also Benoit Blanc movies. They’re so different. The reality is, if you put Muppets in a Benoit Blanc movie, it would feel totally wrong because they would be getting murdered.”
Despite that dashed dream, there’s still good news on the horizon: Wake Up Dead Man premieres on Netflix December 12th, and it’s another great mystery from the maestro, ranking high on our Best Movies of 2025 list. Check out “Forks Out” below.
