Scottish post-punk band The Twilight Sad have shared their new single, “WAITING FOR THE PHONE CALL,” featuring their longtime supporter, The Cure’s Robert Smith, on guitar. Stream it below.
Alongside the core duo of singer James Graham alongside multi-instrumentalist Andy MacFarlane, the moody, soaring track features contributions from occasional live members David Jeans and Alex Mackay of Mogwai.

“‘WAITING FOR THE PHONE CALL’ is about grief, love, and mental illness,” Graham explained in a statement. “I lost the person most important to me in one of the cruellest ways. I’ve always used writing as a method of processing and coping with my emotions. My emotions became a problem and I couldn’t control them.”

He continued, “Writing music with Andy… especially the past seven years had been both the escape and the opportunity to process and try and make sense of life. We’ve all been waiting on a phone call that can change our lives at some point. This unfortunately focuses on a phone call that you never want to have.”
The Twilight Sad’s most recent studio album, It Won/t Be Like This All the Time, was released in January 2019.
Alongside the new song, The Twilight Sad have announced a headlining 2026 tour of the UK/Europe, featuring stops in Milan, Berlin, Paris, London, Glasgow, and more. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 31st at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster.
