Charli XCX‘s cinephilia has been well documented in recent years, from her viral Letterboxd reviews to her Coachella set that handed the “Brat Summer” baton to some of her favorite indie directors releasing films in 2025. And while she has made several appearances this year in films like “100 Nights of Hero,” “Sacrifice,” and “Erupcja,” 2026 is shaping up to be the year that sees her film career ascend into the stratosphere. In addition to composing songs and releasing a companion album for Emerald Fennel’s “Wuthering Heights,” the pop star is set to star in “The Moment,” a new A24 music industry satire based on her own original idea.
“The Moment” marks the feature directorial debut of Aidan Zamiri, a veteran music video and commercial director behind Charli XCX’s “360” video and Billie Eilish’s video for “Birds of a Feather.” He also directed Timothée Chalamet in a recent commercial for CashApp. Zamiri co-wrote the script with Bertie Brandes, and the cast includes Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Hailey Benton Gates, Isaac Powell, Alexander Skarsgård, and Rachel Sennott.
An official synopsis for “The Moment” reads: “A rising pop star navigates the complexities of fame and industry pressure while preparing for her arena tour debut.”
While the film is not explicitly autobiographical, Charli XCX has hinted that its music industry satire reflects her own experiences. “It’s fiction, but it’s the realest depiction of the music industry that I’ve ever seen,” she said in an October interview with Vanity Fair.
Music for the film will come from British producer A. G. Cook, who worked on several of the most popular tracks on “Brat” including “Apple,” “Spring Breakers,” and “Von Dutch.” Cook, who is also a producer on “The Moment,” is no stranger to the film world either, having contributed music to the Rachel Sennott and Ayo Edebiri-led comedy “Bottoms.”
Other upcoming projects on Charli XCX’s film docket include Gregg Araki’s “I Want Your Sex,” which also stars Olivia Wilde, Cooper Hoffman, and Chase Sui Wonders; and an untitled collaboration with “Audition” director Takashi Miike.
An A24 release, “The Moment” opens in theaters everywhere on Friday, January 30. Watch the teaser below.
