One of the best and most iconic crime thrillers ever made is soon set to land on a new free streaming home, which makes now the perfect time to check it out if you’ve never seen it. Directed by Brian De Palma, the film in question was released nearly 40 years ago, but still holds up today thanks to being widely regarded as a cinematic classic. It features an all-star cast that includes the likes of Kevin Costner and the late Sean Connery, two names alone that make it worth watching.

If you haven’t guessed by now, we’re talking about The Untouchables, the 1987 crime thriller set during the Prohibition era that sees Costner’s Eliot Ness doing his best to bring down Al Capone, who was expertly portrayed by Robert De Niro. Featuring a number of memorable sequences, The Untouchables had all the style and flair that audiences had come to expect from a De Palma film, which is one of the reasons it’s still such a beloved favorite today. Plus, it’s got some highly quotable lines, too, which is another reason it’s remembered so fondly.

In addition to Costner, Connery, and De Niro, The Untouchables also starred Andy Garcia, Charles Martin Smith, Richard Bradford, Billy Drago, and Patricia Clarkson. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, winning one for Best Supporting Actor (Connery). Surprisingly, De Palma failed to secure a nod for Best Director, and the film was never nominated for Best Picture despite being praised by fans and critics. If you’ve never had the pleasure of seeing this excellent crime thriller, or perhaps just want to watch it again, The Untouchables will soon call Tubi home beginning December 1, 2025. Check out the synopsis below:

“After building an empire with bootleg alcohol, legendary crime boss Al Capone (De Niro) rules Chicago with an iron fist. Though Prohibition agent Eliot Ness (Costner) attempts to take Capone down, even his best efforts fail due to widespread corruption within the Windy City’s police force. Recruiting an elite group of lawmen who won’t be swayed by bribes or fear, including Irish-American cop Jimmy Malone (Connery), Ness renews his determination to bring Capone to justice.”

Having directed some of the most iconic movies in history, including Scarface, Carrie, Body Double, and Mission: Impossible, De Palma could easily call it a day and never direct another project. In fact, many people felt he had already done so following his 2019 crime thriller, Domino, but such is not the case according to the man himself.

Speaking with Vulture last year, the 85-year-old filmmaker divulged that he has “one other film I’m planning to make.” Of course, no one knows what that is yet, since he didn’t say much else other than adding:

“We’re in the process of trying to cast it. I can’t tell you what it is, until it happens. Then I’ll be very happy to announce it.”

As we await to find out what De Palma has in store for us next, be sure to check out The Untouchables when it comes to Tubi on Dec. 1, 2025.
