Shortly after the release of Wicked: For Good, the studio behind the global musical hit has revealed its plans for the franchise. While Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivos’s reign as Glinda and Elphaba, respectively, may be over, it seems more films could explore the fantasy universe loosely based on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
In an interview with Vulture, Michael Moses, Chief Marketing Officer for Universal Pictures, revealed that the studio is actively searching for ways to produce more installments in the Wicked franchise after the smash-hit success of the two-part musical adaptation.
“Because of ‘Wicked’s’ success but also the fanship, we have almost a responsibility to figure out how we can continue in this universe. Have we figured it out yet? No. But there are things underway.”
More to come.
