The First Four Danzig Albums Have Been Reissued on Vinyl

Danzig’s first four albums have finally been reissued on vinyl. The campaign comes via Universal Music, which acquired Danzig’s catalog from Warner Bros. back in 2007.

Originally released on Rick Rubin’s Def American Recordings imprint, these four albums have never been officially repressed on proper, non-picture disc vinyl since their original releases. Each retails for $27.98 and is pressed on standard weight black vinyl that’s housed in standard or gatefold jackets, depending on the album, with printed inner sleeves.

Unfortunately, Danzig’s self-titled debut, aka “Danzig 1,” appears to be already sold out in the US as of this posting. Containing Danzig’s biggest hits, “Mother” and “Twist of Cain,” this LP marked Rubin’s first full-length release on Def American in 1988. Since then, it’s been constantly bootlegged on vinyl, with the only official release being a poor-sounding picture disc in 2007, around the time of Universal’s acquisition (per Discogs).

The follow-ups albums Danzig II – Lucifuge (1990), Danzig III: How The Gods Kill (1992), and Danzig 4P (1994) were darker and less commercially successful, albeit remain critically lauded and beloved by fans. These repressings are currently in stock.

As for future Danzig albums, Glenn himself has insisted that he’s done with the album format, though singles with the Misfits or his eponymous band aren’t off the table. The last album of original material released under his own name remains 2017’s Black Laden Crown.
