The cogs are finally turning on Amazon’s controversial reboot of the James Bond franchise. Denis Villeneuve will direct, with Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight writing the script. The hunt for the new James Bond actor might still take some time, but before audiences welcome a new actor to the 007 mantle, the “best James Bond era” (according to some fans) is making a comeback on streaming. The best James Bond is a subject that’s hotly debated by fans of the franchise. The older generations tend to prefer the likes of Roger Moore’s tenure or Sean Connery’s time holding the license to kill. Younger viewers were likely introduced to Pierce Brosnan as Bond, or the most recent actor to play 007: Daniel Craig. And it’s the latter who is making a serious comeback on the streaming charts.
Daniel Craig’s best James Bond movies are all available to stream on Prime Video, and viewers can’t get enough of them ahead of Amazon’s James Bond reboot. Craig’s best 007 movies, as well as his final outing as the character, are all trending on the Prime Video chart. No Time to Die, Craig’s final James Bond film, is currently the second most popular movie on Prime Video, with arguably his best, Casino Royale, in third. Also in the chart is Daniel Craig’s other fan-favorite James Bond film, Skyfall, which is currently the 10th most popular film on the platform.
Casino Royale was Daniel Craig’s first film in the James Bond franchise. Judi Dench carried over her role as M from the Pierce Brosnan era, with Craig playing a more modern iteration of the character. The film also starred Eva Green as Vesper Lynd and Mads Mikkelsen as the villain, Le Chiffre. Skyfall, directed by Sam Mendes, is one of Craig’s best James Bond movies, introducing audiences to Ben Whishaw as Q and Javier Bardem as the villain Raoul Silva. No Time to Die is one of the more divisive entries in the franchise, and it just so happened to be Craig’s last. Ana de Armas played Paloma, with Rami Malek as the villain Lyutsifer Safin, and Lashana Lynch as the new 007.
What’s Going On With Amazon’s James Bond Reboot?
As previously mentioned, Amazon’s upcoming James Bond reboot is still in the early stages of development. Fans were incredibly skeptical when Amazon purchased the rights from the Broccolis. However, each step taken towards the next James Bond film appears to be a good one. Dune and Sicario director Denis Villeneuve will direct the untitled James Bond film, which is impressive by itself. But when Villeneuve is paired up with Steven Knight, the new film has the potential to be the best James Bond movie yet.
Unfortunately, it might be some time before it hits our screens. Villeneuve is currently busy with Dune 3. Meanwhile, Steven Knight has countless projects, including the Peaky Blinders movie and spin-off series, as well as new seasons of Rogue Heroes and House of Guiness to produce. Hopefully, we’ll get some script updates soon.
