Matty Matheson, chef, restauranteur, and forged member of FX’s dramedy The Bear, can add a brand new title to his already-loaded resume: hardcore punk frontman.
Matheson debuted his new band, Pig Pen, at Sneaky Dee’s in his native Toronto over the weekend, performing a rousing set alongside founding Alexisonfire member Wade McNeil. Rounding out the 5 piece are Daniel Romano on guitar, Ian Ski Romano on drums, and Tommy Main on bass. Matheson introduced the brand new mission again in March, writing on Instagram, “A FEW OLD FRIENDS GOT TOGETHER A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WROTE AND RECORDED 10 SONGS OVER 2 DAYS. WE JUST WANTED TO HANGOUT AND SEE WHAT’S UP.”
The band hasn’t introduced when these recordings will see the sunshine of day but, so the fan-captured movies of their Sneaky Dee’s set function the primary previews of their livid sound. As evidenced by his function as handyman Neil Fak on The Bear, Matheson’s positively obtained some charisma, and his high-pitched roar suits proper into Pig Pen’s energy shredding. Matheson has worn Energy Journey and Hurt’s Approach shirts in The Bear, appeared on the Knotfest podcast HardLore, and in 2019, launched a double LP and a zine, fittingly titled A Cookbook.
