Testament‘s cover of “Seek & Destroy” is out now as an early tease of the forthcoming covers album No Life ‘Til Leather – A Tribute to Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All, out November 21st via Silver Lining Music.

Considering Testament’s place alongside Metallica as forerunners of the Bay Area thrash metal scene, the former band is a fitting choice for the tribute comp. Frontman Chuck Billy delivers a strong and inspired performance, and the rest of the band tears through a faithful rendition, updating the iconic early-Metallica cut with modern production and a thicker, chuggier sound.

“We had fun covering Metallica’s song ‘Seek and Destroy,’” stated Billy in a press release. “Songs like this started a movement!”

We’ve already heard a couple of other covers from the tribute album, including David Ellefson’s take on Cliff Burton’s mini-epic “(Anesthesia) – Pulling Teeth” and The Almighty’s cover of “The Four Horsemen.”

The rest of the tracklist features a fascinating curation of bands that either influenced or were influenced by Metallica, including a few major New Wave of British Heavy Metal acts: Diamond Head (“No Remorse”), Saxon (“Phantom Lord”), Raven (“Metal Militia”), and Tygers of Pan Tang (“Jump in the Fire”). Among those bands, Diamond Head would prove vital to Metallica’s early sound (their cover of Diamond Head’s “Am I Evil?” is iconic), and Raven were famously part of Metallica’s first-ever tour, 1983’s “Kill ‘Em All for One” outing.

You can pre-order No Life ‘Til Leather – A Tribute to Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All via this location. Stream Testament’s version of “Seek & Destroy” and see the album art/tracklist below.
