For the first time since she was still a teenager, Taylor Swift won’t be competing for a nomination at the Grammy Awards. This is for the simple reason that the pop superstar didn’t release any music during the eligibility window, which ran from August 31st, 2024, to August 30th, 2025.

Her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, and its lead single, “The Fate of Ophelia,” were both released this past Friday, October 3rd, missing the cutoff date by more than a month.

As Billboard points out, Swift last sat out a Grammy ceremony in 2007, when she was just 17 years old. Her breakout single, “Tim McGraw,” was eligible in the Best Country Song and Best Female Country Vocal Performance categories, but wasn’t submitted for consideration.

Since then, Swift has vied for and earned Grammy nominations in all but three years. She didn’t receive nods in 2009, 2011, and 2017, despite being entered in two or more categories for each of those shows.

Overall, Swift has won 14 Grammys, including a record four wins for Album of the Year. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, however, she went home empty-handed.

As for The Life of a Showgirl, read our own Wren Graves’ review, as well as Liz Shannon Miller’s recap of the official release party film.
