Following Krystal’s accident, the team has to figure out how they’re going to make due without her. This show is so unexpectedly hilarious to me. I mean the way they described Krystal’s injury was so chaotic; what do you mean it took the ambulance twenty six minutes to get to her? Then when Boon took this opportunity to talk about his past injury, he mentioned how it took EMT a while to get to him too. As he’s describing this, it shows this flashback of him literally laying on the ground as people trip over him and jump over him – I know this is easily slapstick comedy, but it worked well here.

Now that they’re down a cheerleader, Courteney decides that the team will perform at “Media Day” which is where they will have the opportunity to promote their program. This is also where she believes she’ll be able to recruit new cheerleaders in order to qualify for Daytona. Should be simple enough since they’re the only competitive cheer team slated to perform, but get this, because her husband wanted to spend more time with her since she was fired from her old school (where he still works), he gets her old squad entered to perform at Media Day. They are ten times better than Courteney’s new squad and he basically set her up for failure unintentionally.

This one scene had no business making me laugh as hard as it did; it was the one where Krystal was being interviewed and she was thanking her fans for making #whyyyyyyy trend – then it cuts to a cheerleading team intentionally dropping their flyer and breaking their foot the same way she did. It then cuts back to Krystal and she’s like “I cannot endorse this trend”. Again, a very simple scene, but it works.
You know what I appreciate about this show? There aren’t (as of now) the stereotypical two squads not liking each other and competing against each other how they usually do. When Tammy took over after Courteney was fired, seeing her at Media Day wasn’t awkward at all. They genuinely missed each other and that was refreshing to see. I thought there was going to be some sort of animosity between them but nope!
