Stranger Things just debuted the first four episodes of its final season and, while the series has always been a hit with audiences, Episode 4 of this new season, “Chapter Four: Sorcerer,” has the series’ highest user rating on IMDb. This marks an impressive feat for the episode, given that it’s already scored 20,000 votes despite having only debuted two days ago. With these episodes debuting during a holiday break, it’s likely that even more viewers will check out these episodes in the coming days, but whether this rating will go higher or lower is anyone’s guess.
According to IMDb, this batch of four episodes is currently ranked as follows:
- “Chapter Four: Sorcerer”
- “Chapter Three: The Turnbow Trap”
- “Chapter Two: The Vanishing of Holly Wheeler”
- “Chapter One: The Crawl”
The all-time top five episodes break down as follows:
- Season 5 – “Chapter Four: Sorcerer”
- Season 4 – “Chapter Seven: The Massacre at Hawkins Lab”
- Season 4 – “Chapter Four: Dear Billy”
- Season 1 – “Chapter Eight: The Upside Down”
- Season 2 – “Chapter Nine: The Gate”
Interestingly, only one Season 3 episode cracked the top 10 based on user ratings, as Season 3’s “Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt” sits at #7. What might not come as a surprise to fans, however, is that the lowest-rated episode comes from Season 2, which is “Chapter Seven: The Lost Sister.” In this episode, Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven leaves Hawkins, Indiana behind temporarily, connecting with other teens who have telekinetic powers and were also research subjects.
Given the nature of the Stranger Things fandom, the narrative momentum of Season 2 largely being disrupted by “The Lost Sister” leaving Hawkins behind caused some extreme reactions from audiences, with 15.5% of users rating it a 1 out of 10. The popularity of the franchise saw some fans speculating that this episode wasn’t even meant to be an authentic continuation of the narrative so much as it was designed to introduce more characters that could spawn their own spin-offs.
What Else Can Fans Expect From the Future of ‘Stranger Things’?
The next three episodes in this final season of Stranger Things debut on Christmas, December 25, and the series finale will debut on Netflix on December 31. Even if the proper series is concluding, don’t expect to leave the franchise behind for good quite yet.
The franchise has already expanded into the pages of comic books and into a live theatrical production, while the upcoming animated series Stranger Things: Tales from ’85 is expected for 2026, which takes place between the events of Seasons 2 and 3. Additionally, just earlier this week, creators Matt and Ross Duffer confirmed that a live-action spin-off series focusing on one of the characters from Stranger Things is moving forward, though hasn’t yet confirmed which character it will follow.
