Stevie Wonder led an all-start tribute to funk legend Sly Stone to kick off the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The performance also featured Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, Questlove of The Roots, Maxwell, Jennifer Hudson, and Best New Artist Grammy nominee Leon Thomas.
The collaboration opened with “Dance to the Music” — and Flea even took a moment on lead vocals — before Maxwell came out for “Everyday People.” They then grooved out to “Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin),” where Flea did his real thing by jamming on one of the greatest bass lines of all time. Finally, Hudson took the stage to hit the high notes on “Higher.”
Stone passed away on June 9th, 2025, at the age of 82. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Sly and the Family Stone in 1993.
