The AI revolution is coming for your playlists. Spotify is partnering with OpenAI’s large language model ChatGPT to suggest even more personalized music and podcast recommendations.
Beginning today, October 6th, Spotify Premium and Free users will be able to link their accounts to ChatGPT, allowing the AI chatbot to assist in finding new artists, songs, playlists, albums, or podcast episodes.
Some of the prompt examples that Spotify highlighted in its press release include, “Make a playlist with some Latin artists that are on my heavy rotation,” and “Are there any podcasts you’d recommend if I want to go deeper into science and innovation?”

Addressing potential concerns from artists and creators, Spotify has clarified that no audio or video content will be shared with OpenAI for training purposes. The feature is also entirely optional, requiring users to opt in and allowing them to disconnect at any time.
The company also said it is “continuing to invest in personalization technology and the expertise and insights of our human editors, so that we have something that matches every moment.”
“Spotify’s vision has always been to be everywhere you are,” explained Sten Garmark, senior VP, global head of consumer experience at Spotify, in a statement. “By bringing Spotify into ChatGPT, we’re creating a powerful new way for fans to connect with the artists and creators they love conversationally, whenever inspiration strikes.”
This isn’t Spotify’s first AI-related partnership. In February, the company teamed up with AI software company ElevenLabs to expand its ability to provide AI-narrated audiobooks.
The Spotify/ChatGPT integration also follows the recent announcement that the streaming platform was cracking down on AI “bad actors,” having removed 75 million spammy tracks and setting a policy to target music impersonators.
Earlier this month, Spotify finally launched its long-awaited hi-fidelity audio, with the new lossless listening option coming to more than 50 markets at no extra cost to premium subscribers.
