There is nothing like a good bit of speculation to get Marvel fans riled up, and this time it seems to be the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day that is the talk of the internet with a rumored December release alongside Avatar: Fire and Ash in cinemas.
The rumor comes from TrailerTrack, who claim to have heard “rumblings of the release schedule.” Previously, it was suggested that Marvel Studios would be following Christopher Nolan’s lead and releasing a tease of Avengers: Doomsday a year before its release, similar to how the Oscar-winner released a short trailer for The Odyssey this past summer. That could still be true, and we could end up seeing two Marvel trailers doing the rounds at the end of the year.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to be released in July 2026. While that would usually mean Marvel Studios would not start actively promoting the film until late winter, Tom Holland’s web-slinging return is now the next MCU movie that will be released in cinemas. This makes it more likely that a trailer will debut with Avatar: Fire and Ash, which is expected to become one of the biggest hits of the year just like its predecessors.
Having such an event as an Avatar sequel, though, makes it a massive opportunity for Disney to use one of their own movies to really kick off some hype around Avengers: Doomsday. Most other years, there would be a trail of several MCU movies leading up to such a release, and trailers would be appropriately timed to focus on the most imminent film. With only Spider-Man: Brand New Day to promote, it would perhaps be the perfect chance to push two movies in one go.
‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Can Deliver a Bumper 2026
Marvel Studios’ decision to release only Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024 really paid off, with the movie becoming one of the biggest post-Endgame entries in the MCU and helping stave off some of those “superhero fatigue” comments after a dismal 2023. This year, Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and even The Fantastic Four: First Steps all failed to break out in the way Marvel Studios has became used to several years ago. The Fantastic Four became Marvel’s highest grossing movie of the year with $521.9 million worldwide, but even then, it is currently just scraping the Top 10 ahead of The Conjuring: Last Rites with $482 million.
In 2026, Marvel will be expecting to at least double the $1.3 (approx.) box office this year’s movies took between them. The Spider-Man franchise has constantly been one of Marvel’s top performers, with Homecoming taking $880 million, Far From Home pushing up to $1.13 billion, and No Way Home blowing off the doors with $1.9 billion. While the latter of these had the advantage of a multiverse story that pulled in former franchise stars such as Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Willem Dafoe, Brand New Day would be disappointing if it does not manage to become only the third Marvel movie since 2019 to break $1 billion during its theatrical run.
Of course, Avengers: Doomsday is a different beast entirely. No Avengers movie has come close to ending with a box office under $1 billion, and with everything from the last five years having led to this one, no matter how fatigued fans have become, this is not one they will want to wait to see on Disney+.
Combined, Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday can make box office disappointment a thing of the past, and with Avengers: Secret Wars following a year later, Marvel Studios, and Disney by proxy, will not be short of some spare cash in the next couple of years.
