One of the most striking aspects of the trailer for the upcoming Yorgos Lanthimos movie, Bugonia, is the sight of a bald Emma Stone. On Monday, October 20th, the Culver Theater in Los Angeles capitalized on the buzz by hosting a special “bald screening” of the movie.
“Are you bald, or willing to shave your head?” read the announcement from DoLA, adding that for those with hair, a barber would be on-site two hours before the screening “to shave it all off.” The post continued, “This is real. And yes, part of it will be filmed.”
It’s unclear whether any attendees took the offer to get their hair shaved off before the screening, but photos that surfaced online show that some theatergoers were able to get in with bald caps on.

In Bugonia, Stone — who shaved her head for the role — plays a “high-powered CEO of a major company” who is kidnapped by two conspiracy theorists convinced that she is “an alien intent on destroying planet Earth.” Revisit the trailer below.
Marking the fourth collaboration between Stone and Lanthimos after The Favourite, Poor Things, and Kinds of Kindness, the film also stars Jesse Plemons, Aidan Delbis, Stavros Halkias, and Alicia Silverstone. Following a limited theatrical release this Friday, October 24th, Bugoniawill go nationwide on Halloween.
The Culver Theater previously made waves in August with an influencer-only screening of The Long Walk, where attendees were challenged to maintain a three-mile-per-hour pace on treadmills for the film’s entire runtime.
