The previously unreleased Scott Weiland song “If I Could Fly” has been unveiled on the 10th anniversary of the singer’s passing.
Released on vinyl for Black Friday Record Store Day last week, the track was made available to stream via Primary Wave/Virgin today, December 3rd, 10 years to the day that Weiland died at the young age of 48.
“To honor ten years since Scott Weiland’s passing, we’re releasing something truly special for the real fans,” reads a Facebook post on Weiland’s official page. “This is the first unheard song from Scott’s archive since he left us. It is personal, raw and a reminder of the heart that ran through all his work. Scott’s legacy spans Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, a stack of awards, and more than 50 million albums sold. But it’s songs like this that show why people stayed connected to him for decades. ‘If I Could Fly’ bridges two generations of listeners and gives back a piece of Scott that’s been held close for 25 years.”

The song was penned by the longtime Stone Temple Pilots singer in 2000 after the birth of his son, Noah, and balances uplifting verses of laid back acoustic guitar with a soaring rock chorus.
Meanwhile, Noah Weiland will be honoring his father with a gig Wednesday night, December 3rd, at the Garden Amp outdoor amphitheater in Orange County, California. He’ll be joined on the bill by Jakob Nowell, son of late Sublime singer Bradley Nowell.
Noah, who previously covered STP’s “Sex Type Thing” and Velvet Revolver’s “Slither,” will be performing his dad’s material for the show (get tickets here), previously stating, “Considering we thought of this whole thing and locked it in two weeks ago, I got a whole lot of rehearsals, AA meetings, and praying to do. I’m keeping [the setlist a] surprise. Just expect hits from different eras and even some deep cuts, underrated songs. I’ll definitely do a solo song or two of my own tunes, but they will be more rock and grunge based to fit the vibe of the show.”
