Trailblazing hip-hop group Salt-N-Pepa filed a lawsuit towards Common Music Group (UMG) on Monday, alleging the label is violating copyright regulation by refusing to show over the rights to their grasp recordings and has retaliated by pulling their early music from streaming providers.
As reported by Billboard, Cheryl “Salt” James and Sandra “Pepa” Denton filed the lawsuit in New York federal court docket. They declare UMG has “refused to honor” their “termination rights” beneath Part 203 of the Copyright Act, which permits artists to reclaim possession of their recordings 35 years after a music’s preliminary launch.
Salt-N-Pepa’s first three albums are at the moment unavailable on Spotify and Apple Music, whereas re-recordings are the one approach to hear their breakout hit, “Push It.”
