I’VE GOTTA BE ME!
There is no more fitting song to play in the background of the official Power Book IV: Force Season 3 trailer, as Tommy Egan returns after an almost two-year layoff to take over Chicago once and for all.
Ah, it feels good to be back in the Power Universe!
In case you forgot, as it has been a minute, the last time we saw Tommy at the end of Power Book: IV Force Season 2, everything was falling apart around him.
It was another season of betrayals, murder, and mayhem, leaving Tommy without his latest lady love, Mireya Garcia, whose brother, Miguel Garcia, seemingly took her after he discovered she and Tommy were dating behind his back.
On top of losing Mireya, half-brother JP tells him he wants nothing to do with him, and business partner Diamond seems more skeptical of him than ever.
All this to say, Tommy ended the season in a bad place, but it’s also not unfamiliar territory for him.
We’ve often seen Tommy, but in positions where he has to crawl out of the ashes and rebuild himself.
That’s what coming to Chicago in the first place was all about for him, starting over.
He’s been on a mission since he got there to make Chicago his, and like the famous song croons, “Whether I’m right or whether I’m wrong. Whether I find a place in this world or never belong. I gotta be me, I’ve gotta be me. What else can I be but what I am?”
Tommy Egan may be many things.
Still, one thing he has always been is unapologetically himself, and that will continue into Power Book IV: Force Season 3, if the explosive trailer is anything to go by.
The trailer is heavy on the violence, but that’s to be expected with Power.
Of all the spinoffs, Force has always been the most violent, and there is no shortage of gunfights and bloodshed in the extended first look at the season.
It’s worth noting that Mireya is featured in the trailer, seemingly putting to rest any concerns about her whereabouts after the events of last season.
Notably, Tommy seems to be taking D-Mac under his wing for real, even involving the sacred names of Kanan and Ghost.
Knowing this is the last season of the series, many people have wondered what Tommy’s fate will be. Or will the events of the season kickstart a new spinoff?
While that remains to be seen, if this is the last ride we get with this iteration of Tommy Egan, you better believe we will be basking in every solitary moment of it.
