The ideal season finale closes the season and sprinkles enough teasers in case the show gets renewed again.
Platonic Season 2 Episode 10 accomplished that in spades. It showcased both the best and worst aspects of the characters.
We laughed and cried with them as their current arcs came to an end, and I hope the show continues because they left everyone’s journeys in an entertaining place.
Will and Sylvia Needed Time Apart to Come Back Together
Will became “that friend” who got shuffled from friend to friend, and it was hilarious how hard Katie worked to get rid of him.
I’ve loved how much more we’ve seen of Katie (Carla Gallo) in Platonic Season 2. She’s hilarious and has a fun, easygoing relationship with Will.
However, even she was tired of him staying with her, and she didn’t know how it became her problem.
I thought helping to put her mother in a senior center was a nice touch, especially since Katie’s mom had less of a filter than she did.
If Will was traumatized then, he was even more so after Katie slept with him. It was the one line Sylvia would never cross, but Will left Katie’s like his pants were on fire. He hated anything intimate.
This episode became even more entertaining when Will moved in with Reggie and Omar, and Reggie almost sounded like an energy drink infomercial, saying he needed them and they’ve been proven to function.
He’s so high on caffeine that he made Will the errand boy, ordering him to buy more.
Will tried to refuse, but I think he was out of options and friends to be his errand boys.
Since his friends were useless, he had to lug all of his beer tap machinery out of Sylvia’s yard himself.
I’ve wanted to see this scene since I saw it in the trailer. It was so funny when the beer exploded all over Sylvia’s yard. It was the ideal thing that could have gone viral.
But instead, it set the two of them off to unleash a bunch of resentments. Sylvia felt Will had messed up everyone’s life, including hers, by encouraging Charlie to quit his job.
I knew it bothered her that he confided in Will, not her.
Will resented Sylvia because if she kept her mouth shut, he would have been married by now. Neither one was wrong, and those things needed to be said.
The best thing about true friends is that they still come through for you when the chips are down.
When Sylvia heard about that non-compete clause, she was the first one ready to fight by Will’s side so he could have his bar.
She believed in him, and he’d finally be independent and have a way to support himself. I don’t think she thought she’d end up his partner for the dream to soar.
Charlie and Sylvia Finally Appreciated The Rocks in Their Lives
Every marriage reaches a point where each partner needs some time to appreciate the other.
While Sylvia worked hard to become an event planner, she didn’t look happy flying all over the country and missing her family.
While she claimed to crave partying again, now that she could stay out all night with Cabo Carrie, all she wanted was to return home and see the children.
It was a tough spot, as she discussed on Katie’s show, since it felt validating to return to work after being a stay-at-home mom, but it was challenging.
I felt for her the way Carrie (Aidy Bryant) referred to her as such a mom and teased her for not wanting to work on Maeve’s birthday.
Sylvia finally realized her family was her most important job, and she wasn’t built for the entertainment world, where everyone referred to each other as “bitch.”
However, she also appreciated her husband more and knew it was her turn to support him and make the money.
It was the first time we saw the ice thaw between when they went to trade in the minivan. They both finally gave in a little, since Charlie also acknowledged that he shouldn’t have quit his job without discussing it with her.
They were both stubborn, but they loved each other deeply, and watching them stroll down memory lane with the kids’ baby toys was precious.
It reminded them of what they have, and inspired Sylvia to throw Charlie a book party and help him self-publish his novel.
Showing him she believed in him helped him over the hump, but also helped him realize he needed to return to work, or he’d go crazy at home alone.
The Platonic Season 2 Finale Finally Dangled Several Threads For a Third Season
The finale dangled several storyline threads for a potential third season. While Platonic has not officially been renewed, Rose Byrne and Seth Rogan would like to continue Sylvia and Will’s journey.
There are obviously more stories to write, and it would be entertaining to watch them run “Shitxty Little Bar” together.
Sylvia would bring her elegant love of wine and event planning, combined with Will’s expertise as a brewmaster.
I suspect there would still be issues as they battled for control. I also wonder what Charlie will think as Sylvia makes yet another decision without consulting him.
I doubt he meant she should volunteer to be the face of the bar when he and Stewart suggested getting someone to help Will.
Sylvia could also face consequences at work, as she has just signed a contract with Carrie to be her company’s event planner. I suspect Carrie won’t be thrilled that Sylvia is quitting to work locally at a bar.
Then, there’s the awkwardness that Will slept with two of Sylvia’s friends. While she doesn’t have the right to police his love life, this could get messy since they agreed to work together.
Bring on the drama! We’ll let you know as soon as we receive an update.
