Peaky Blinders is already getting a feature film continuation on Netflix, but fans of the beloved period drama will be treated to another installment in the television format. Those looking forward to more unruly dealings involving the Shelby family are in luck, as a sequel series will follow the events detailed in the upcoming Netflix movie.
Deadline reports that Netflix and BBC have ordered two new seasons of Peaky Blinders, set after the events of The Immortal Man. The sequel series will be two six-episode seasons, executive produced by creator Steven Knight and star Cillian Murphy. It is unclear if any of the original cast will return, but Deadline reports that the casting process has yet to be determined. Of course, the Shelby family will once again be at the center, this time in the destructive aftermath of World War II. Read the official synopsis for the upcoming sequel series:
“Britain, 1953. After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart.”
Knight has been increasingly busy as of late, as he recently released another historical drama for Netflix called House of Guinness, which debuted to positive reviews from critics. He also has A Thousand Blows, starring recent Emmy winner Stephen Graham, on Hulu, a boxing drama set to receive a second season. The biggest project of his career thus far, of course, is Amazon’s upcoming James Bond reboot, which he is writing with Denis Villeneuve at the helm. When it comes to the Peaky Blinders sequel series, Knight teased that it will follow a “new generation of Shelbys.”
“I’m thrilled to be announcing this new chapter in the Peaky Blinders story. Once again it will be rooted in Birmingham and will tell the story of a city rising from the ashes of the Birmingham blitz. The new generation of Shelbys have taken the wheel and it will be a hell of a ride.”
‘The Immortal Man’ Plot, Cast & Release Date
Directed by Tom Harper (Heart of Stone) and based on a screenplay by Steven Knight, The Immortal Man is the highly anticipated follow-up to the sixth season of the parent series. The cast is set to feature Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer), Rebecca Ferguson (Dune), Tim Roth (Reservoir Dogs), Stephen Graham (Adolescence), Sophie Rundle (After the Flood), Ned Dennehy (Culprits), Packy Lee (Blue Lights), Ian Peck (His Dark Materials), Jay Lycurgo (Titans), and Barry Keoghan (The Banshees of Inisherin). While plot details have been scarce, Knight previously teased the film as “an explosive chapter in the Peaky Blinders story” that sees the Shelby family in a full-on war.
While Steven Knight has already teased the continuation of the Peaky Blinders universe past The Immortal Men, it is unclear when the film will be released on Netflix. It was expected to debut later this year, but considering an official release date has not been announced, it is possible that it will be pushed to early 2026. Fortunately, fans will be rewarded for their patience in more than one way, with a two-season sequel series also in the works.
