Although the last Ocean’s film starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt was released back in 2007, that hasn’t stopped a fourth film starring the original cast from being in development. It has taken some time to get the project moving forward, but Ocean’s Fourteen is finally happening. There have been various reports since as far back as June 2021 about who would be involved, with Conclave director Edward Berger and franchise mainstay Steven Soderbergh in conversations. Then, it was reported back in January that David Leitch (The Fall Guy, Bullet Train) was in talks to direct. Now, a new report has revealed that one veteran Ocean’s actor will be returning.
In a report from The Wrap, it was revealed that Andy Garcia, who plays series mainstay Terry Benedict, would be returning for Ocean’s Fourteen. The actor was promoting the upcoming second season of Taylor Sheridan’s Landman when he said that his character would “be back for more.” Garcia also revealed that filming on the long-awaited sequel was supposed to start in January 2026, but the production had to be moved due to scheduling conflicts. This is more than likely due to Brad Pitt’s work on The Adventures of Cliff Booth, the Netflix sequel to Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, which is being directed by David Fincher from a script by Quentin Tarantino.
The final hurdle being scheduling lines up with Clooney’s comments that he made in October, in which he revealed to E! News that they “got the budget approved at Warner Bros. and we’re trying to set up. It’s just scheduling, so it’s just setting a start date for us. Probably start in about nine or 10 months, shooting. Brad [Pitt], Matt [Damon] and Don [Cheadle] and Julia [Roberts]. I had dinner last night with Julia. They’re all still really dear friends. And so, the chance to work together would be fun.”
Andy Garcia Could Be the Antagonist of ‘Ocean’s Fourteen’
The fact that Andy Garcia will be returning as Terry Benedict could mean that he will once again serve as the antagonist of the upcoming film. He was the main opposing force of Danny Ocean in Ocean’s Eleven, and also an antagonist in the subsequent two films. The complicated relationship between himself and Danny’s crew in Ocean’s Thirteen leaves the door open for either Benedict being the main villain or a reluctant partner who could double-cross the team down the line.
Ocean’s Fourteen isn’t the only film in the series that is currently in development, as an Ocean’s prequel is also on the way. The prequel, which will star Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper and be directed by Lee Isaac Chung (Twisters, Minari), will be set in 1960s Europe. There are plenty of exciting things happening in the Ocean’s franchise, with the series having come a long way since the original 1960 movie directed by Lewis Milestone, featuring Frank Sinatra and five members of his “rat pack.”
