It’s too early to know for sure who killed Lester, but that isn’t the point.
With two episodes left after this, Only Murders In The Building is ramping things up so it can wrap up its mystery on time, but the real story is the one that began when their podcast was censored.
Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Episode 7 didn’t come close to resolving that yet, but it did take several hilarious swipes at the billionaires who think they can buy the world.
“Game Night” With The Billionaires Was One Of The Series’ High Points
The majority of the episode centered around the ridiculous idea of the billionaires having a game night to hide what they were really up to.
The three wealthiest people in New York playing Operation would have been funny on its own.
Oliver: Three billionaires going to the middle of nowhere to play a children’s game. Nothing to see here.
It was predictable that the trio would get caught spying on this seemingly ridiculous gathering, but it kicked off an even more compelling plot: the detectives using the billionaires’ competitive spirits against them to extract information.
That password-type game was hilarious on both sides, but the best line was the billionaires’ clue for Bernie Sanders. It was a hilarious acknowledgement that Bernie has been a thorn in the side for decades of those who believe in economic policies favoring the wealthy.
The trio’s rebuttal round was even funnier — just as the bad guys used their personal relationships to score points, so did they, putting Oliver’s annoying stories to good use for the first time in all five seasons.
I’m surprised the billionaires stuck to the rules of the game and admitted they’d lost, though they told the trio next to nothing, and what they did tell them was mostly useless.
I’m Not Exactly Sure We Needed Oliver Wandering In The Woods
I felt like I missed something because Oliver went quickly from deciding he didn’t want to be part of this aspect of the investigation to wandering in the woods with no phone signal and no idea where he was going.
I know Only Murders In The Building isn’t your only favorite show.

To an extent, that’s typical Oliver, but it didn’t make much sense and felt like filler.
The whole bit with the couple who thought Oliver had dementia because Loretta issued a silver alert was the least funny part of the episode.
I still have no clue who they were, and the story quickly jumped from Oliver refusing a ride to the hospital to him somehow showing up on a riding lawnmower or whatever that was supposed to be.
I’m not a fan of jokes involving the idea that older people must have dementia.
It’s ageist, and I was disappointed that Only Murders In The Building Season 5 decided to go there.
Are We Ever Going To Find Out What Really Happened to Jay’s Finger?
Or who the one everyone is fighting about belongs to, for that matter?
Mabel confronted Jay twice during this episode. Granted, the second time she was trying to get him to step aside so that Sebastian wasn’t able to kill them, so that would have been a bad time to bring up the finger not being Jay’s.
She absolutely could have the first time, and it might have been more fruitful than pushing him to talk about why the billionaires shut down the podcast.
I’d like some answers to that finger. I’m still unsure why Camilla felt the need to steal it back.

I don’t think the trio should have given in so easily.
I get she was waving a gun around, but I felt like it was an empty threat, and Donna should have been on her way to collect it, which would have resolved the problem.
Still, Camilla may have overplayed her hand.
Camla, like the other two billionaires, thinks money can buy her whatever she wants and nobody can stop her.
Revealing that she had a master plan to buy all of the units and turn the Arconia into a luxury casino might have been a step too far.
Has Oliver closed on the sale yet? If not, I’d think he could reject her offer and that would be that.
Like all overly powerful people, Camila has become cocky; she’s sure she can get what she wants and brags before she’s achieved it.
This Type of Social Commentary Is What Has Elevated Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Above Other Shows
Camila’s plans are part of the season-long commentary on the ultra-wealthy and how they are the new mobsters, which is an incredibly timely theme right now.
The trio’s unhappiness with the direction of the podcast and their unusual alliance with the mayor are part of the same plot.
Yes, there’s a mystery to be solved, and Only Murders In The Building has lost sight of that at some points during the season.
Right now, it looks like Camila is guilty, but I’d bet on one more twist before the end.
In the meantime, Only Murders In The Building continues to attack the divide between the ultra-wealthy and the rest of us while giving us an entertaining mystery
