Apple TV has announced the return date for its hit series Shrinking. Created by Bill Lawrence, Brett Goldstein, and Jason Segel, Shrinking follows Jimmy (Segel), a therapist and father still grieving the loss of his wife, who becomes much more involved in his patients’ lives. The series also features fellow therapists Paul Rhoades (Harrison Ford) and Gaby (Jessica Williams). There is also Jimmy’s daughter Alice (Lukita Maxwell), his neighbor Liz (Christa Miller), and patient turned house guest Sean (Luke Tennie).
Shrinking Season 3 will debut on Apple TV on January 28, 2026, with a one-hour first episode. The season will have eleven episodes, each one airing every Wednesday until the finale on April 8. In addition to series regulars like Segal, Ford, and Williams, the new season will see guest roles for Jeff Daniels and Michael J. Fox. Series co-creator Brett Goldstein, who plays the drunk driver responsible for Jimmy’s wife’s death, Louis Wilson, has a recurring role for Season 3. In addition, How I Met Your Mother star Cobie Smulders will return after showing up as a guest star in Season 2.
Will ‘Shrinking’ End With Season 3?
Shrinking has been a hit with critics since it debuted. Both Seasons were nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards, including the very first ever Emmy nomination for Harrison Ford. Season 2 was even named one of the top ten series of 2024 by the American Film Institute. This certainly has fans excited about the prospect of Michael J. Fox’s upcoming appearance on the series, as the actor has largely retired due to his Parkinson’s diagnosis.
A big question for many fans going into Shrinking Season 3 is if this will be its last. The creative team have hinted that the show will conclude a three-season arc, while teasing possible new storylines for an unplanned Season 4. While their other show, Ted Lasso, did initially end after three seasons, it is notably set to return for an upcoming fourth season, so plans for Shrinking could change. Read what Bill Lawrence had to say about the show’s future in early 2025:
One of the fun things that we’ve done, because we’re in the writers’ room already for Season 3, is we’re putting Easter eggs in it as to what the new story that starts Season 4 is about. One of the cool things about streaming, what you can do now, is do a three-season story that has a beginning, middle and end. If people love those characters, there’s plenty [of] stories to tell.”
