I absolutely loved this podcast episode; I am so glad that we found out about Merlin. We have heard a lot about him in previous episodes and it was great to finally get to hear from him.
It was so cool to learn that the bullpen is designed using inspiration from different police stations to make it as authentic as it could be, ever since the first episode of Chicago PD it has always seemed like a real location.
I have always wondered why the boars head hangs in the bullpen, it’s so incredible how much detail they pack into such a small area by honouring real life areas like the Ira’s bar that was a real bar for cops.
Listening to Merlin and Luce talk about making the show as authentic as possible was so intriguing, they both have a lot of passion towards making the show feel real to not only the fans but to the cast when they are in the space working too.
I truly couldn’t believe that around 70% of the show is actually filmed out and around Chicago, it is truly rare that the majority of filming takes place not on a sound stage. This episode truly showed how much hard work goes into making the show as good as possible for the fans and it really does pay off.
