LEGO sets can be an expensive pastime. Following the recent announcement of a $1000 Star Wars Death Star, those looking to spend a little less on their buildable movie models will be thrilled to know that a new set based on the iconic 1985 adventure movie, The Goonies, is going on sale on November 4, 2025.
Taking the form of The Inferno, the legendary pirate ship of One-Eyed Willy, the set will cost you a fair amount of doubloons, ringing up on the till as $329.99. For your money, you will get a 2912-piece set that not only comes with the outer frame of the ship, with plenty of classic scenes from The Goonies depicted inside, such as the Fratellis’ hideout and One-Eyed Willy’s treasure room, but it also comes with 12 mini-figures of the classic characters including Chunk, Data, the Fratellis, and Sloth.
Some will no doubt find the cost of the set a little steep. It is worth remembering that this is a long way from being the most expensive set to have been released by LEGO. Several smaller sets based on popular recent releases like Wicked and Lilo & Stitch will set you back anything from $30 to $100, while the recently released Lord of the Rings Rivendell set costs $499.99, and the classic Star Wars Millennium Falcon will fly away with $849.99 of your hard-earned cash.
‘The Goonies’ Celebrates Its 40th Anniversary and Is Finally Getting a Sequel
The Goonies is one of those movies that found a place in the hearts of movie lovers and has endured over the years to become a family adventure movie that has ingrained itself in pop culture. Whether shouting, “I love you, Chunk,” or remembering that “Goonies never say die,” there are many quotes from the movie that roll off the tongue frequently in conversations, and the film also became the jumping point for the careers of several stars such as Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, and Ke Huy Quan among others.
After many years of rumors surrounding the chances of a sequel being made, it looks like The Goonies 2 is finally going to set sail four decades on. The follow-up to Richard Donner and Steven Spielberg’s movie has the latter onboard as producer, as well as the original movie’s writer, Chris Columbus, also producing. The new movie will be written by Potsy Ponciroli, who shared an update on the project in September while appearing at the Venice Film Festival.
“I have turned in a first draft, which was very well received, and I’m on a second draft and I’m about 95% done with that so we’re moving in the right direction. I know there’s a lot of ‘do we need a new Goonies,’ but I’m the biggest fan of the original. It’s my favorite movie of all time. I’d never ‘redo’ The Goonies. To me, it was a story that never ended, so this is the movie I want to see as one of its biggest fans.”
The very mention of a sequel moving forward has sparked much speculation about the original cast – the younger cast, at least – returning to their roles for the movie. While several members have expressed an interest in returning in some capacity, it seems almost a given that the story will include a new group of “Goonies,” even if the old gang are there to help them along the way. The Goonies 2 currently has no filming scheduled or release window confirmed.
