Kelly is currently topping the Netflix chart with her romantic Christmas movie Champagne Problems, but she took some time out of filming on Ransom Canyon to talk about the shore with Entertainment Tonight.
“We’re shooting it right now, so it’s been actually really fun and the season is really, really good. We’re all like, I think I like the season even better. It’s eight episodes now instead of ten, so they’ve really tightened up all the storylines.
So it’s just jam-packed with so much. There’s a lot more levity this season too, which I love. The levity to break the tension, which I find is such a nice relief sometimes when it can be really heavy.
We have some new characters this season that I think people are really going to love.”
‘Ranson Canyon’ Is on a Rocky Road
This is not the first update that has worried viewers awaiting the second season of Ransom Canyon. It was previously revealed that two main cast members from the first season may not be back in the same capaciy for Season 2. According to a report published in September, Eoin Macken and Andrew Liner, who play father and son Davis and Reid, have dropped from the list of cast regulars for Season 2, although it wasn’t confirmed whether they’ll be appearing as guest stars.
Although several stars of the movie have professed that Ransom Canyon is certainly its own thing, there is no doubt that the popularity of Yellowstone and Taylor Sheridan’s expanding universe and Paramount+ instigated the series on Netflix. Speaking on the very subject, star Jack Schumacher previously told MovieWeb.
“The great thing about Ransom is that it doesn’t try to be Yellowstone. It exists in its own thing… It leans heavier into the romance… You don’t turn it on and go like, ‘Oh, this is like a knockoff,’ you know? It exists in its own world. So I’m very excited at that because I think that’s probably a concern for a lot of people going into it, and I’m sure that people who are turning it on might be thinking that’s what they’re getting into. And I think they’ll be pleasantly surprised to know that that is not the case.”
Ransom Canyon Season 1 did not fare well with critics, scoring just 45%, but audiences were much more onboard, delivering a 73% rating. The series also landed some strong viewer numbers, but was not the kind of mega-hit that many other shows have been in the past year on the Platform. Ransom Canyon has been filming since September and is expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in 2026, where it goes from then will likely depend on how its new season performs.
