Warning – Spoilers below for Season 5 of Stranger Things
Stranger Things fans consider themselves to be an eagle-eyed bunch, analyzing every piece of content they can to predict the direction of the sci-fi saga, with star of the series Noah Schnapp confirming that Netflix themselves hinted at a major reveal earlier this year. According to the star of the series, the placement of the main characters on a Season 5 poster signalled how Will Byers would become a major player in this final batch of episodes. With the poster having been revealed on October 31, this clue has been staring fans in the face for nearly a month.
In Season 5’s “Chapter Four: Sorcerer,” Will (Schnapp) discovers that he has telekinetic powers similar to those of Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), much to the surprise of his friends and, most importantly, the nefarious Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). While Byers has always been an important character in the series, he is often sidelined, with this reveal bringing major ramifications for the final episodes of the series.
Speaking with Glamour, Schnapp explained this tease on the poster:
“It’s always supposed to kind of feel the vibe of the season and give an essence of where everyone’s characters stand in that era and chapter of our story. So yeah, you can see a strength in him on there. And obviously, they didn’t want to spoil it with any blood or anything, but as close as you can get. Everything is very intentional that we do.”

What Else Can ‘Stranger Things’ Fans Expect This Season?
The debut season of the series focused on Will going missing, with the events of that adventure revealing how he had been captured and taken to the dimension that would since be known as the “Upside Down.” Despite being rescued in that Season 1 finale, Will vomited up a bizarre object, teasing that his connection to this realm wasn’t quite over.
Our heroes faced off against a variety of threats over the years, from Demogorgons to the Mind Flayer to Vecna, with Season 4 confirming everything was connected to Vecna through a hive mind. Much of the series has focused on Eleven’s abilities and how she could use them to fight Vecna, only for audiences to witness brief glimpses of how Will was connected to the Upside Down. Viewers got to see Eleven’s impressive abilities in Season 5, Vol. 1, but it was Will’s powers that really shocked us.
This wasn’t the only surprise these episodes contained, though, as “Sorcerer” also confirmed that a military operation had imprisoned Kali (Linnea Berthelsen), aka Eight, and her powers were being manipulated somehow. Now that Eleven has discovered Kali, it’s likely that Will, Eleven, and Kali will all unite to take down Vecna in some capacity, though fans will have to wait to witness the extent of the battle.
Stranger Things Season 5, Vol. 2 premieres on Netflix on Dec. 25 and the finale debuts on Dec. 31.
