Longtime Journey keyboardist-guitarist Jonathan Cain has quit the band, according to a new social media post by lead guitarist Neal Schon.

In a post on X/Twitter late Thursday night / early Friday morning, Schon wrote, “Jonathan Cain announced his farewell to Journey tonight. I’m nowhere near done! Journey has so much more life ahead! I’m sure we will have a great tour!”

When a fan commented about all the classic members who have parted ways with Journey over the years, Schon responded, “He wants to do his ministry.”

Cain’s departure leaves Schon as the only remaining classic member of Journey. Drummer Deen Castronovo has been around since 1998, but joined the band long after their biggest hits of the ’70s and ’80s. Singer Arnel Pineda joined in 2007, while keyboardist Jason Derlatka and bassist Todd Jensen are recent additions to the lineup following the firings of Ross Valory and Steve Smith.

Schon and Cain famously took legal action against each other over the band’s finances while still bandmates in Journey, before finally resolving their dispute in 2024.

Meanwhile, Cain recently announced his new single “No One Else,” a tribute to slain right-wing activist Charlie Kirk. He has served as a worship leader at Florida’s City of Destiny church, at one point led by his pastor wife, Paula White-Cain, who was appointed by President Trump as the leader of the newly formed White House Faith Office.

As of now, Journey have no upcoming tour dates scheduled, but the band did mention back in August that a 2026-27 tour was in the works.
