I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready to go back to the land down under!
The NCIS franchise makes its return to primetime on October 14, and that means triple the action, kickass teams, and great storytelling for one of the best universes still airing.
And for those who have dabbled in NCIS: Sydney, they can brace themselves for a must-watch season opener that will have us on the edge of our seats!
The exciting thing about this season is that it’ll be relocating from Friday nights to Tuesday, joining the rest of the franchise.
And it’ll be quite the lineup. It’s especially exciting because this season may be one of the strongest yet.
The NCIS: Sydney Season 2 finale was an explosive affair that dropped some major bombs on the team as a whole and dealt some blows to some of its members individually.
It was a shock to learn that Mackey’s friend-with-benefits, Etienne, was actually the offender they were looking for, making billions off an industry that capitalized on international aid contracts and terrorism.
JD was the one who suspected that something was off about Etienne, but a typically observant and great reader of people, Mackey, had a blind spot when it came to her friend, and the entire experience threw her off.
A standoff with Etienne resulted in his death, and Mackey is still reeling over the fact that she never saw the scenes.
For someone who puts a lot of stake in her gut and her ability to figure people out, it stung her in ways we haven’t even begun to explore yet.
Mackey doesn’t trust easily, so the notion that someone close got the jump on her is something that we can expect to see explored deeply in the third season.
It’s also something that can affect how Mackey continues to work with the team, out in the field, as she often finds herself questioning her instincts and abilities, left to second-guess herself.
The finale also left beloved Blue in a potentially terrifying spot when we saw an older woman who must be from her past waiting for her in her apartment.
It’s been clear that Blue has a past she’s afraid of and ran away. Sadly, her fun excursion with Doc led to her photo in a paper that got out to people she didn’t want to see her.
Now, we have to figure out who this person is and what she wants with Blue!
The new season also teases a theme about the past coming back to haunt people, something that will be especially prominent for Olivia Swann’s Mackey (stay tuned for our exclusive interview with her, dropping soon)!
The NCIS-AFP crew is definitely getting lots of action and fun this season with cases that include an alien abduction, a podcast cold case, and a larger, potentially overarching plot involving an international conspiracy.
Whereas, things with Blue may escalate due to people from her past coming into play, possibly with ulterior motives.
And DeShawn and Evie will both face challenges and new experiences of their own, some of which will even test the nature of their dynamic.
The opener specifically kicks off the show with a bang!
Fittingly, the episode is titled “Gut Instinct,” which gives me the impression that it’ll refer to Mackey’s struggles in the aftermath of Etienne.
Who is our girl when she can’t trust her gut, especially when working a big case? We’ll have to see if that’s a spot-on assessment.
Our team will get involved with a case when two missing U.S. Navy aviators are adrift on the Coral Sea, which leads to the team getting deeply embroiled in exposing a massive, sinister terrorist plot with a ticking timeline!
See what we mean about explosive?
You’re not going to want to miss this one!
We’ll have you covered with a full review after the episode.
