NCIS knows how to get viewers hooked to their screens, and the series is doing just that by putting Parker in grave danger.
At the end of NCIS Season 23 Episode 1, viewers were shocked when Parker didn’t listen to his teammates and boarded the ship to catch Carla himself.
He went in without a backup plan, trusting his instincts to lead him through the danger ahead. However, things get really intense when the ship is about to reach international waters and the government orders the Navy to blow the vessel.
To make matters worse, Parker’s sister, Harriet, who is a Vice Admiral in the Navy, was brought in to lead the operation, forcing her into a difficult position between duty and family.
Parker is the type who is likely to throw himself into dangerous situations, assuming he can do it all himself and ignore the risks until it’s too late.
But this time, the stakes are higher than ever, as Parker’s life hangs in the balance and his own sister is the one giving the order that could end it all.
Will Harriet Give the Order to Blow the Ship in NCIS Season 23 Episode 2?
Things are certainly not going to get easy for Parker as he continues to find a way to nab Carla.
Believe it or not, it’s Harriet who faces the toughest decision of her career. The brother-sister duo might not be talking to each other, but it won’t be easy for her to give the order.
I mean, come on, it’s her brother, and why would she want to be the reason for his demise?
While part of me would love to see the situation getting more intense and see Harriet fighting her own emotions, it might not be realistic, and she would have to make a decision quickly, knowing that every second could change the outcome for the mission.
After losing their father so recently, would she really be willing to risk losing her brother too? It seems Harriet’s personal feelings are going to clash with her duty in a way that could completely change how this mission plays out.
Moreover, it would be a great way to show how the sibling bond works. The duo might not have seen each other in years, but moments like these remind us why NC⁶IS is much more than just a simple police procedural.
Parker’s Teammates Find Themselves in a Precarious Situation
The NCIS team never left Parker’s side, even when he was told to back off and forget about the case.
They are like a wolfpack and are always up to protect each other if danger shows up, no matter how risky or impossible the situation might seem. That’s the beauty of this team.
However, this is where things might get really dangerous and complicated for them.
The promo for Episode 2 suggests that Director Vance is likely to arrest Parker for not following his orders. Vance feels that taking Parker into custody is the only way to stop putting his own life in danger.
McGee questions Vance about whether he intends to take the entire team into custody for helping their agent-in-charge.
I mean, talk about a difficult decision!
Vance might be the director, but he’s also like a father figure to these agents. Having to choose between his professional duty and his loyalty to the team is a gut-wrenching decision.
Unfortunately, he might have to choose a side this time around or lose his job.
It’s highly unlikely that the team will back down and stop supporting Parker. That’s not who they are, and the promo makes it clear that they are ready to take whatever punishment comes their way. That’s the NCIS dynamic we love!
Parker’s Story is Far from Over
Let’s be honest here! NCIS will think a hundred times before killing off Parker, and that too, so early in the season.
The premiere made it clear that he is ready to do anything and everything to catch his father’s killer. He goes rogue and tries to solve the case with the help of his team.
It would be a travesty to write him out right away, especially when his story arc—catching his father’s killer—is still so fresh.
That vessel might be on a collision course, and Parker’s own sister has the firing button under her finger, but NCIS always finds a way to pull its hero out of the tightest spot.
It wouldn’t make sense to keep him out of the story when something as personal and high-stakes as his father’s murder is the central theme of this edition.
Apart from that, the season seems to be focusing on the things that happened in the past and how they shaped each character, especially Parker and Harriet.
On the other hand, I believe that Carla is here to stay and she won’t be dying anytime soon. Can you believe a character like her dying so easily? No, NCIS doesn’t do that kind of stuff.
That’s why this season’s premiere and the second episode are fittingly titled ‘Prodigal Son’ (Part I and II).
Parker didn’t follow the rule book while working on the case, but he might realize that he went in without any preparation, and Carla was one step ahead of him.
Our team will definitely try to join him in his pursuit to find justice, which might lead them to places they have never been before.
Now you know why we love NCIS! Don’t miss the thrilling conclusion to ‘Prodigal Son’ (Part II) next week!
