You know these house projects you want to do forever, but something always comes in the way? Well, I had this idea of a chill listen / read corner in the room I use for office since we moved in more than a year ago. As always, something always felt more important, but not today. Posters are up, furniture is assembled, lights are installed and I got brand new flowers, making this the perfect zone out place to listen to beats. None of this would have been possible without having a proper soundtrack to the work that had to be done and it was Mono:Massive’s “Listen Up” that kicked me up to do this. A homage to the classic boom bap energy, this feel-good instrumental is instant head-bop that slaps with hard drums, rugged samples, and razor-sharp vocal scratches.
I’m a sucker for anything that references the Golden Era of hip hop and this one is definitely up there! Mono:Massive is one of the OGs and I’m glad we get to talk about him again.
