Thank goodness Matty and Olympia declared a truce (for now anyway.)

I spent most of Matlock Season 2 Episode 3 wondering if the ice would ever thaw between them and getting ready for another rant.

After convincing a woman played by Yvette Nicole Brown to settle her case in a way that felt good to her, the women finally came to an agreement, and it couldn’t come a moment too soon.

Matty and Olympia’s Anger Was Interfering With the Case

At first, the only contribution this case made was preventing Matty and Olympia from endlessly arguing about their next steps once the partners began searching for who leaked information to the New York Times.

They were constantly holed up in Olympia’s office, talking at each other and risking being overheard because they were so damn loud.

Even if they didn’t know what it was about, Billy and Sarah could tell something was off.

But the worst part about this was that their work was suffering because of their personal rift.

I was so annoyed when Olympia tried to blame the over-broad subpoena on Sarah and Billy.

Sarah: I wanted to ask you about this subpoena, but since you and Matty are arguing…

Olympia: We’re not arguing. What’s the question?

Sarah: Nothing. The subpoena’s written. It’s good.

The only reason Sarah submitted that subpoena is that Olympia was in a rush to get back to her argument with Matty and didn’t insist on reviewing it, so she had some nerve trying to make it sound like Sarah submitted it without showing it to her and then yelling at Sarah about it.

I don’t even like Sarah most of the time, but that was BS, and I didn’t like the way Olympia was treating her.

It was also hard to watch the sibling vibe between Billy and Sarah while knowing what happened behind the scenes and why David Del Rio is no longer working on Matlock.

Anyway, Olympia and Matty needed to make that truce. Their conflict was seeping into the work, their associates were becoming aware of it, and their case was suffering as a result.

I Loved How Supportive Edwin Was This Time Around

Olympia and Maddie are stuck in the elevator together with a plant on Matlock Season 2 Episode 2
    (CBS/Robert Voets)

As you know if you’ve been following my Matlock Season 2 reviews, I haven’t been happy with Edwin lately.

He was too much on the side of Matty dumping Olivia altogether and seeing her as the enemy, and it was aggravating.

Now that Olympia seemed to have wrested control away from Matty, Edwin was able to be more supportive.

That scene where he reminded Matty of how desperate she was to paint Ellie’s room the perfect shade of white brought me to tears.

Matty’s reaction did too, especially her fear that they’re getting sucked back into someone’s chaos again because Alfie wants Joey in his life.

It’s clear Matty’s conflict with Olympia was over her hurt that Olympia chose protecting the father of her children over getting justice for Matty’s daughter.

In some ways, the two women are too alike, and that’s why this whole mess happened.

I’m Glad For The Truce, But I Still Miss The Way Matty and Olympia Used To Be

I guess they’re back to where they were at the beginning of Matlock Season 1, when Olympia had to accept Matty’s help but didn’t trust her.

That’s better than sniping at each other all the time, but I hate that these two women have done so much backpedaling.

I get that they both think they’re doing the right thing, but their friendship was glorious.

Toward the end of Season 1, Olympia and Matty had begun confiding in each other about child care struggles and the like, and I hate losing that.

It’s Hard To Know What The Right Thing To Do Was

Edwin was right that ultimately, Matty’s goal was to get justice for Ellie and other families.

Her insistence that Olympia focus on that and that Julian apologize for what he did to contribute to Ellie’s death made perfect sense, though I don’t know how Olympia is going to get that apology from Julian.

I was with Maddy at first: Ms. Belvin shouldn’t take responsibility for the leak just to protect Olympia.

Olympia’s freakout about the whole thing was annoying, though. I didn’t like her wondering how they would stop Belvin from going into that room and testifying, and she was starting to make ridiculous suggestions like faking a heart attack to stop her.

I felt better about the decision to let her take the fall when she volunteered to do it, though. It didn’t seem right, even if she did write a Reddit post that started the whole thing.

But her reasoning made sense. She wanted to do something to stand up to what Jacobson Moore had done, so paying the consequences for it made sense to her, and she wanted to protect Olympia and Matty so they could finish what she’d started.
