If you crave true, pristine nostalgia like a shambling corpse seeking human brains, Macaulay Culkin is ready to feed your need.
Well, at least in theory.

The acting legend is in the midst of “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin,” a 14-city tour that features both “terrible trivia questions” and “Joe Pesci stories.” During the Sunday, November 22nd show at the Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, Culkin revealed (via People) that as we celebrate the 35th anniversary of Home Alone this year, he’d actually be amenable to a sequel. (To clarify, there’s already 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which is both superior in parts and a lackluster follow-up in other areas.)
“I wouldn’t be completely allergic to it,” Culkin told the crowd. “It would have to be just right.”
So, what exactly would be enough to make the 45-year-old actor resume the mantle of Kevin McCallister? Well, it would have to be a story where the now-older McAllister has been through some decidedly hard knocks.

“I kind of had this idea. I’m either a widower or a divorcee,” Culkin said. “I’m raising a kid and all that stuff. I’m working really hard and I’m not really paying enough attention and the kid is kind of getting miffed at me and then I get locked out.”
From there, Culkin clarified that he’d basically be a single parent who is all but absent. That would mean Kevin, Jr. would be in the role of precocious protagonist — “setting the traps for me,” as Culkin explained — and Kevin acts as the de facto Harry and Marv (Pesci and Daniel Stern). Throw in a sassy version of Alexa and he’s clearly on to something!
For what it’s worth, it’s not just about torturing Kevin McCallister. Culkin went on to say that the premise is ultimately about presenting a “‘get let back into his heart’ kind of deal,” mirroring the poignant emotionality of the first film when Kevin reunites with his own mom, Kate McCallister (Catherine O’Hara). Let’s just avoid another cringey Donald Trump cameo, OK?
Despite his, um, unique interest, Culkin may have a hard time reuniting the full cast and crew. The first film’s director, Chris Columbus, recently told Entertainment Tonight that he doesn’t really see the need for Home Alone 2027.
“I think Home Alone really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that,” Columbus said. “I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.”
For what it’s worth, Culkin has a history of playing around with the Home Alone “canon.” Last December, he revealed that he almost purchased the Illinois house featured in the film. Before backing out due to obvious financial reasons, he’d intended to do it “for the giggles.” That’s basically the same reason he legally changed his middle name to “Macaulay Culkin.”
As we await our manifestations to take hold, you can enjoy any of the reboots, including 1997’s Home Alone 3; 2002’s Home Alone 4; 2012’s Home Alone: The Holiday Heist; and 2021’s Home Sweet Home Alone. Or, just peep the recent Home Instead ad where Culkin “revives” McCallister. (Or, the decidedly similar Google Assistant ad from 2018.)
Below, check out the remainder of Culkin’s tour dates. With any luck, his next date will feature mention of an animated spin-off for Party Monster.
