After doing his best John Wick in last year’s underrated action outing Fight or Flight, Josh Hartnett will once again show off his particular set of skills in a new action thriller from a particularly violent director. After moving away from Hollywood in the mid-2000s, Hartnett has now made a triumphant return with roles in the likes of Oppenheimer and Trap and seems determined to carve himself out as the next action hero to watch. And, so far, it’s been an explosive treat for the eyes.
It has now been revealed (via Deadline) that Hartnett will join forces with Violent Night and Dead Snow director Tommy Wirkola for All Day & All Night, an action thriller that finds a retired bank robber in a dangerously exposed situation after a heist gone wrong. Written by Wirkola and John Niven, All Day & All Night is set to enter production next year, and you can check out the official synopsis below…
“When his daughter gets into Harvard, reformed bank robber Billy Davies (Hartnett) returns to a life of crime to come up with the tuition money. But when the bank heist goes horribly wrong, he and his crew accidentally stumble onto the set of a failing reality TV show. Now Billy must stay on air long enough to figure out an escape plan from the cops trying to arrest him and the mob trying to kill him, while the producers must keep the show on air long enough to boost their ratings and evade cancellation.”
‘All Day & All Night’ Will Continue to Prove Josh Hartnett’s Action Hero Prowess
Josh Hartnett’s return to the big screen has been embraced by audiences, with the actor bringing his effortlessly likable persona to the horror genre with M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap, the historical biopic in Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, and the action-comedy genre in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, in which he stars alongside Jason Statham under the direction of Guy Ritchie. Clearly learning some lessons from The Stath, Hartnett took the lead in the action outing Fight or Flight, starring as a disgraced special agent who finds himself trapped on a plane and facing down an onslaught of hired killers in what proved to be one of the best action movies of last year.
Falling somewhere between John Wick and Bullet Train, Fight or Flight flew under the radar upon release, but has since reached new heights on streaming, where it continues to find itself in the Top 10 on Paramount+. The action flick was met with solid reviews from both critics and audiences alike, and here’s hoping that, under the watchful eye of director Tommy Wirkola, Josh Hartnett can bring another action movie destined for cult classic status to screens.
Alongside All Day & All Night, Josh Hartnett is showing zero signs of slowing down, with the actor due to star in the romantic thriller Verity, based on Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name. Tommy Wirkola, meanwhile, is busy wrapping up our next Christmas action movie gift as we speak, returning to the world of David Harbour’s battle-hardened Santa in Violent Night 2, which is due for release on December 4, 2026.
