Picture this: John Wick creator Derek Kolstad has written a script for a new action movie, intriguingly titled Painter, that has been picked up by 20th Century Studios, with Avatar helmer James Cameron attached as an executive producer. The high-profile project has already locked in its two lead stars, as Fallout actor Walton Goggins has recently signed on to star opposite Prey breakout Amber Midthunder after Reacher‘s Alan Ritchson had to bow out due to scheduling conflicts. The new duo will make quite a formidable pairing and will no doubt create an exciting on-screen dynamic when the film eventually arrives on the big screen.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Painter centers around Midthunder’s character, a woman, “trained from a young age, who must employ every skill in her arsenal to rescue her father after he is kidnapped.” As you might have guessed, Goggins will play her father. The two actors could forge a longstanding on-screen relationship if the film proves to be a success, as Drew Simon of Infrared Pictures (one of the production companies behind the feature) described it as “a seminal action hero film” that could become “an exciting new franchise” when the project was first announced last year. In a statement at the time, he said:
“Painter will be a seminal action hero film, making Midthunder into this generation’s Sarah Connor (Terminator). We loved [Derek] Kolstad’s high-octane script, and we know, with Garrett Warren at the helm, this film will kickstart an exciting new franchise in the world of action.”
More to come…
