The Bourne franchise was created by author Robert Ludlum, who wrote the first three novels in the literary series, starting with The Bourne Identity in 1980. The books became the basis for the highly successful five-film saga, led by Matt Damon in all but one movie, which collectively grossed over $1.6 billion globally at the box office. There has not been a new feature-length entry for nearly a decade, but fans of the action thrillers might be about to get Bourne 2.0, as Jessica Biel has signed on to star and executive produce a series adaptation of Ludlum’s bestselling novel The Ambler Warning, which has a very similar premise.
As reported by Deadline, the project has been born (excuse the pun) out of a new first-look deal between Paramount Television Studios and Biel and Michelle Purple’s Iron Ocean Productions, following on from previous talks prior to the Paramount-Skydance merger. Jason Horwitch is attached to write the small screen adaptation of The Ambler Warning and will also serve as showrunner on the series. In addition, Horwitch will executive produce alongside Biel and Purple, as well as Ben Smith and Jeffrey Weiner for Captivate Entertainment, the production company behind 2012’s The Bourne Legacy and 2016’s Jason Bourne.
More to come…
