Fans of Jennifer Lopez may be getting something a little unexpected with the star’s upcoming Netflix movie, as the star has teased something a little more raunchy than her usual rom-com. The singer and actress has recently scored a critical hit with Kiss of the Spider Woman, but her next movie will be a little more There’s Something About Mary than Maid in Manhattan.
Lopez became well-known for a run of romantic comedies in the 2000s and her new movie could well be the start of a resurgence for the actress. Office Romance is a Netflix movie that was specifically written for Lopez by Ted Lasso’s Brett Goldstein and Joe Kelly, and JLo has already been teasing fans with something that could be a little more (immaturely) mature than her previous entries in the genre. She told Watch What Happens Live:
“I have [a rom-com] coming for you. We have a good one coming up…. It’s not the typical JLo rom-com that you are used to, like the sweet wholesomeness. It’s a little raunchy. It’s like the jokes are a little – think more like Knocked Up. You know what I mean? [There’s] Something About Mary.”
The switch-up from nice to naughty is something that puts JLo in the same company as Jennifer Lawrence, who delivered a hilariously risqué turn in 2023 with No Hard Feelings after many years of playing more serious roles, and Sydney Sweeney, who got steamy with Glenn Powell in Anyone But You. Both of those movies scored big at the box office and on streaming, suggesting that Lopez could be onto a winner.
Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein’s “Flirt-Fest”
Lopez’s comments on Office Romance certainly add to the previous whispers about the production becoming a “flirt-fest” between the actress and her costar Goldstein. According to In Touch Weekly, a source from the movie said:
“They’re both professional and ready to deliver their lines when the cameras are rolling, but in between, it’s a flirt fest. Brett fawns all over Jennifer, and she’s absolutely loving the attention. He is so adoring, which is exactly what she needs right now.”
Goldstein has made no secret of his crush on Lopez in the past, and it is clearly something he is making the most of now that he is starring with her. Could Office Romance lead to another PR romance similar to that of Powell and Sweeney during the release of Anyone But You? It seems that anything is possible, and with Lopez having parted ways with Ben Affleck in 2024, perhaps there is a chance that something more could develop despite Lopez previously saying that she was looking for her next romantic relationship to be with a “regular Joe” rather than another actor.
Office Romance will likely get a limited theatrical release before moving to Netflix sometime late in 2026/early 2027.
