Action movie icon Jason Statham is all smiles (no doubt sharing the gleeful expression of fans) as he returns to one of his best franchises in a new look at the upcoming action thriller, The Beekeeper 2. Grinning from ear to ear in a rare sight for the gritty and gruff genre favorite, director Timo Tjahjanto has shared a new image from the set of the sequel, which started filming last month and is expected to land in 2026.
Taking us behind the scenes via Instagram, Statham stands alongside Tjahjanto, with the pair promising to deliver on the hugely well-received The Beekeeper from last year. Introducing The Stath as a mysterious assassin who embarks on a mission of revenge that takes him all the way to The White House, now that the hive has been introduced, the follow-up has the potential to deliver some of the sweetest action thriller honey that audiences have ever tasted. Simply captioning the image with, “Round 2 #Beekeeper2,” you can check out this new look at Jason Statham and Timo Tjahjanto filming The Beekeeper 2 below.
While we currently know nothing about the plot of The Beekeeper 2, Tjahjanto has revealed exclusively to MovieWeb that the action thriller sequel will be very “genre,” comparing the follow-up to anime and manga and likening Statham’s former assassin Adam Clay to “a Bushido character.”
“And I think you’re gonna appreciate this, because, in terms of, like, the villains that we have for Beekeeper 2, especially, like, you’re gonna be blown away just how ‘genre’ it feels, you know… almost like a, like a, something out of, like an anime, like manga pages, you know,… I’m so grateful because with Beekeeper I said to Jason, “Jason, we gonna make this character somebody who has been through the ringer, you know, like, and the only thing that keeps him going is his principle.” He’s pretty much like a Bushido character. He’s a man out of his time, you know, like, and I think he respects that. Like, yeah, this is the reason why he keeps on going. To quote a favorite comic of mine, “even if God stands on your way, cut him down.””
‘The Beekeeper 2’ Recently Added an MCU Star & More to the Fray
While plot details currently remain under wraps, the supporting cast for The Beekeeper 2 has action fans buzzing. Pom Klementieff, best known for her roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy, The Avengers, and Mission: Impossible franchises, and pro wrestler-turned-actor Adam Copeland, who has featured in the likes of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, will star alongside The Stath in the action sequel. Character details are also unknown, but the smart money is on them joining the fray as fellow “Beekeepers.”
The Beekeeper 2 will also bring back Emmy Raver-Lampman and Bobby Naderi as FBI agents Verona Parker and Matt Wiley, with Jemma Redgrave set to return as Jessica Danforth, the President of the United States. They join fellow returning actor Jeremy Irons, who will once again portray the villainous Wallace Westwyld. One mysterious new recruit has also been added to the fray, with Black-ish and Peter Pan & Wendy star Yara Shahidi having now also been added to the cast in an as yet undisclosed role.
