Action movie icon Jason Statham once again finds himself the target in the upcoming thriller, Mutiny, which has now been given an exciting new release date following a recent delay. The Stath will return to the big screen following this year’s A Working Man with Mutiny, which finds the actor and martial artist on the run after being accused of murder.
Mutiny sees Statham in the role as both star and producer as he joins forces with the director behind 2023’s acclaimed Gerard Butler-led action outing Plane, Jean-François Richet. Led by Jason Statham, the rest of the Mutiny cast includes Peaky Blinders and Malignant star Annabelle Wallis and Wrath of Man and The Gentlemen’s Jason Wong, as well as Roland Møller, Arnas Fedaravičius, and Adrian Lester.
After being pushed from its initial January 9, 2026, release date by Gerard Butler’s upcoming post-apocalyptic sequel Greenland 2: Migration, Mutiny will now brighten up the summer season and is due to land in theaters on August 21, 2026, courtesy of Lionsgate. Clearly, the studio has a lot of faith in the latest Statham-led action thriller, and no doubt hopes that Mutiny will be a big summer hit for the struggling studio. You can check out the official synopsis for the action flick below…
“In Mutiny, after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered in front of him, Cole Reed is set up to take the fall for the crime— leaving him on the run as he works to uncover an international conspiracy.”
Jason Statham & Jean-François Richet Promise to Deliver Action Movie Greatness
Mutiny sees Plane director Jean-François Richet reunite with writers J.P. Davis and Lindsay Michel, with VP, Co-Productions and Acquisitions for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group’s Lauren Bixby having previously teased the action movie potential of teaming up Jason Statham and Jean-François Richet, saying, “Jason Statham is one of the most kinetic action stars in the world and we look forward to teaming him up with Jean-François and the MadRiver team who we previously worked with on Plane. We can’t wait to see that creative energy once again as we bring Mutiny to life.”
While we will have to wait until next year to see Statham go on the run, the action icon will, in fact, return to screens before the summer. It was recently revealed that another action offering from The Stath, which sees him team up with Angel Has Fallen director Ric Roman Waugh, will be released on January 30, 2026. Meaning we will still kick-off the new year with some much-needed Statham action. Titled Shelter, the action thriller outing stars Bill Nighy, Naomi Ackie, and Daniel Mays alongside Statham, and will reportedly follow the Transporter star as a recluse living on a remote Scottish island who, after rescuing a girl, unleashes a perilous sequence of events that culminate in an attack on his home, compelling him to face his turbulent history.
But that’s not all! Statham is also joining forces with The Night Comes for Us and The Shadow Strays director Timo Tjahjanto for The Beekeeper 2, which is also expected to land in 2026. Make no mistake; 2026 is rapidly gearing up to be the year of The Stath.
