Jason Momoa has undergone some dramatic changes for some of his movie roles, but his appearance in a new holiday campaign for Chime has done the unthinkable and turned the Hawaiian hunk into someone who looks like your dad’s bank manager. Known for his flowing locks, Momoa’s new gig sees him playing several characters in the “Bank Smarter This Season” campaign, and he is really letting his hair down for the occasion.
In the ad, Momoa dons many hats – and hairstyles – to portray a balding, bespectacled bed salesman, a mulleted security officer, and a store cashier who has a thing for pink. The epic run of transformations are a long away from Momoa’s Game of Thrones appearance as Khal Drogo or his upcoming role as Lobo in the DCU’s Supergirl, but the actor clearly had a blast getting into the holiday spirit.
“We had a lot of fun creating the different characters and bringing the energy of the holidays to life,” Jason said in a press release. “At its core, the campaign reflects Chime’s mission to have financial tools work harder for people, and capturing that spirit on screen was a blast.”
This won’t be the last time we see this collaboration, either, as Momoa added that he is “excited to see what we create together next.” Aren’t we all?
Jason Momoa is Riding a Wave of Success
It is almost hard to image a time when Jason Momoa was not making big waves on screens. While he made early career appearances in the original series of Baywatch, Stargate: Atlantis, and played the lead in 2011’s Conan the Barbarian, it was his role as Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones that really seemed to boost his career. Having amassed over 40 acting credits, Momoa’s next big gig was as the DCEU’s Aquaman, and from there he just hasn’t let up.
He has been part of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies and the Fast and the Furious franchise – and is expected to return to both in the future – and made his mark on TV in hit shows like See and Chief of War. He was also part of this year’s mega hit, A Minecraft Movie, alongside Jack Black.
The actor has no shortage of upcoming roles either. Along with reprising his role as Duncan Idaho in Dune: Part Three, playing Lobo in the DCU, and supposedly Dante Reyes in Fast and Furious 11, Momoa has a voice role in Animal Friends, is taking on the role of Blanka in the Street Fighter reboot, and will be teaming up with Dave Bautista on the buddy-cop comedy The Wrecking Crew.
It seems, though, despite this long list of projects, there will be none that take him on quite the stylistic journey he has gone through for Chime’s ad campaign. Bring on the next one.
