Action movie superstar and Hollywood icon Jackie Chan has finally returned to the world of martial arts thrillers, and it seems that this year’s new action thriller outing has lived up to the actor’s legacy. While Chan has been both seen and heard on screen pretty consistently thanks to the likes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, A Legend, Panda Plan, and Karate Kid: Legends, he’s back to taking things seriously…and audiences love it.
Written and directed by Larry Yang, The Shadow’s Edge, which is itself a remake of the 2007 Hong Kong action thriller Eye in the Sky, finds Jackie Chan back in high-stakes, high-kicking action alongside Zhang Zifeng, Tony Leung Ka-fai, and Ci Sha, as well as Jun, Xing Yu, and Yuen Qiu. Centering on “the ultimate cat-and-mouse game” between a retired elite agent and criminal mastermind
And the word “ultimate” is clearly appropriate, with The Shadow’s Edge now boasting a near-perfect score of 97% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter following more than 100 “Verified Ratings.” One user heaped praise on Chan’s return to more gritty action fare, saying, “Given Jackie Chan’s more recent efforts, I think I can be forgiven for entering The Shadow’s Edge with tempered expectations, especially after bumbling around with CGI panda cubs or passing himself off as a digitally de-aged Han Dynasty soldier. What I ultimately got was a thrilling cat-and-mouse thriller and a considerable return to form for Jackie, offering up one of his best films in years.”
“Best movie ever, worth watching,” declared another user alongside a perfect five-star rating, with further reactions hailing it as “Definitely Jackie Chan’s “come back” movie! Must watch!” and “BEST MOVIE OF 2025: The Shadow’s Edge I will be rewatching this in theatre and then buying it to rewatch a million times over when it’s available!!”
‘The Shadow’s Edge’ Is Dominating the Box Office as Well as Rotten Tomatoes
Not satisfied with simply dominating Rotten Tomatoes, The Shadow’s Edge has also taken over the box office and has now grossed a staggering total of more than RMB 1billion. You can check out the official synopsis and trailer for The Shadow’s Edge below…
“A crew of criminal prodigies disappear with billions, evading capture by outsmarting the formidable “Sky Eye” surveillance system. Desperate and outmanoeuvred, the Macau police enlist the help of a legend—Wong Tak-Chung (Jackie Chan), a retired tracking expert. He mentors rookie officer He Qiuguo (Zhang Zifeng) and rebuilds an elite surveillance unit. Their mission: to track down the elusive “Wolf King,” Fu Longsheng (Tony Leung Ka Fai), the mastermind behind the heist. As the police close in, the thieves spring a trap of their own. Brains clash, loyalties are tested, and the ultimate cat-and-mouse game is about to begin…”
Looking beyond The Shadow’s Edge, Jackie Chan, who is officially an aged action hero at 71, has several projects currently in the pipeline, including the action thriller Five Against a Bullet, a possible New Police Story outing, the action-comedy sequel Panda Plan 2, and the long-rumored Rush Hour 4.
