What To Know
- Hulu has not announced plans for a second season of Murdaugh: Death in the Family.
- Series cocreator Michael D. Fuller stated that while the story feels complete for now, new developments in the real-life case could prompt a continuation.
- Recent real-life events, such as appeals and the release of new books, could potentially serve as material for a future season.
Hulu’s adaptation of The Murdaugh Murders Podcast, Murdaugh: Death in the Family, concluded its eight-episode run with Wednesday’s (November 19) finale, “Man in the Mirror.”
The series ended the story with Alex Murdaugh’s (Jason Clarke) trial and conviction for the murders of Paul (Johnny Berchtold) and Maggie (Patricia Arquette).
Those who’ve been following the saga of the Murdaugh murders in real life, though, know that there is still more to the story that has happened since Murdaugh was sentenced to double life sentences for the crimes.
Will Murdaugh: Death in the Family return for Season 2?
At this time, Hulu has not announced plans to bring back Murdaugh: Death in the Family for a second season.
Series cocreator Michael D. Fuller told TV Insider, “You never say never with this… Just when you’re like, ‘Oh, okay, I get it, that’s a story about this,’ then it’s like, ‘Wait, hang on. I’m hearing something else over here, and some incredible development has happened.’ … Just when you think you’ve got a grasp on this story, it wiggles out of your hands, and becomes something else entirely.”
However, for Fuller, it would take some really big happening in the case to justify moving forward: “I think, certainly, as we sit here today, I feel like we told it in its totality and sort of leaving it with that ending. But you know, I think, never say never. … There’s an appeals process that’s playing out. You don’t know what else could be uncovered.”
If there were any severe enough developments in the Murdaugh saga to justify Season 2, he would be glad to do it. “This team, I would love to work with, again, in any and every one of them, from the cast, our incredible crew, and our writers and producers and and network and studio. If nothing else, hopefully we get to get the band back together on some other project.”
What would Murdaugh: Death in the Family Season 2 cover?
Some of the developments that have happened in real life after the events of the finale in the series include a new tell-all book from Murdaugh’s housekeeper Blanca, the convictions of some of Murdaugh’s associates in the financial crimes, Buster’s marriage to Brooklyn, Murdaugh’s own appeals, the ouster of his attorney from his political office, and a scandal involving the clerk of court in Murdaugh’s trial. However, it is unknown what angle a hypothetical Season 2 would cover.
