Dave Bautista has made many movies in his career since pivoting to acting from wrestling. Alongside his many Marvel Cinematic Universe appearances as Drax, Bautista has appeared in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, Glass Onion, In the Lost Lands, and many other movies, as well as an array of action movies. One of those movies is one that the actor firmly believes is his “most underrated,” and he would love to make a sequel. That movie is Stuber.

Stuber was released in 2019, a buddy cop action comedy directed by Michael Dowse, who also helms Bautista’s new movie, Trap House. The film starred Kumail Nanjiani, who plays an Uber driver who picks up Bautista’s aggressive cop on the trailer of a killer. The film was a moderate box office hit, and scored well with audiences to the tune of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Popcornmeter. However, critics were brutal towards the film, landing it with a 43% “rotten” score.

That is perhaps why Bautista believes that Stuber is the movie that was treated a little harshly. He told us:

“I’ve said this, and I will go to my grave saying this. Stuber was it’s the most underrated film that I’ve ever done. I’m so proud of this film. I’m so proud of what Mike Dowse did with this film. I’m so proud of my work with Kamail Nanjiani. I’m going to pray every night and every day that this film gets a sequel because I just want to step back on set with Mike and Kamail.”

Like many actors, Bautista has frequently found himself surrounded by the same stars and filmmakers on multiple projects. He appeared with his Guardians of the Galaxy costar Karen Gillan on Stuber and will do so again on his Highlander project, which also stars Henry Cavill. Now he is once again working with Stuber director Michael Dowse on his new movie, Trap House.

In his new movie, Bautista plays an undercover DEA agent and his partner who find themselves embroiled in a cat and mouse game with one of the most audacious thieves they have encountered: their own children. Trap House stars Jack Champion (Avatar: Fire and Ash), Sophia Lillis (It), Kate del Castillo (The Book of Life), Tony Dalton (The Last of Us), Whitney Peak (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Inde Navarrette (Superman & Lois), Zaire Adams (Senior Year), and Blu del Barrio (Star Trek: Discovery) alongside Bautista and Bobby Cannavale.

Trap House will be released on November 14, and if Bautista gets his way, it will not be the last time we see this set of characters. During the same interview, Bautista revealed that he always envisioned the film would be the first of a franchise. That will mostly depend on how it fares at the box office, and with reviews expected to start coming in early this week, we will soon find out if Bautista can continue to please fans and perhaps get a few critics on board in the process.
